Conflict

O Lord God,

Thou art my protecting arm,

    fortress, refuge, shield, buckler.

Fight for me and my foes must flee;

Uphold me and I cannot fall;

Strengthen me and I stand unmoved, unmovable;

Equip me and I shall receive no wound;

Stand by me and Satan will depart;

Anoint my lips with a song of salvation

    and I shall shout thy victory;

Give me abhorrence of all evil,

    as a vile monster that defies thy law, casts off thy yoke,

        defies thy law, casts off thy yoke,

        defiles my nature, spreads misery.

Teach me to look to Jesus on his cross

    and so to know sin’s loathsomeness in thy sight.

There is no pardon but through thy Son’s death,

                no cleansing but in his precious blood,

                no atonement but his to expiate evil.

Show me the shame, the agony, the bruises of incarnate God,

        that I may read boundless guilt in the boundless price;

May I discern the deadly viper in its real malignity,

            tear it with holy indignation from my breast,

            resolutely turn from its every snare,

            refuse to hold polluting dalliance with it.

Blessed Lord Jesus, at thy cross

            may I be taught the awful miseries from which I am saved,

                ponder what the word ‘lost’ implies,

                see the fires of eternal destruction;

Then may I cling more closely to thy broken self,

                    adhere to thee with firmer faith,

                    be devoted to thee with total being,

                    detest sin as strongly as thy love to me is strong,

And may holiness be the atmosphere in which I live.

  2. Mike,

    I noticed the stir your previous thread entitled “What My Obedience to God Costs Other People” and was reminded of one of the basic precepts of counter cult ministry: Ministering to a person who has been ensnared in the occult will put you in conflict with demonic forces.

    It’s often difficult for the nominal Christian to realize and accept that we are in the midst of a great spiritual battle in this sin sick and dying world, but the simple truth of the matter is such. That’s to say that we are in a war and Christians are the foot soldiers of Jesus Christ commissioned to fight against His enemies. Sadly His enemies include the myriad of cults of Christianity who profess to be “Christian”, but in fact have believed another gospel and serve another god. Man should make no boast in the fact he believes in God, for the devils also believe and tremble. (James 2:19)

    Ephesians chapter 6 pointedly reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual battle.

    For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:12-13)

    Let us never lose sight of this fact, let us never lose sight that we are the church militant, for when you are a true born-again, blood bought Christianwhen you stop fighting you’re no longer needed.

    Keep fighting the good fight, Mike.

  3. Ponder what the word lost means. Be taught the awful miseries from which I have been saved. The Holy Spirit has made me very aware of the awful miseries I was and am still being saved from. A proud spirit, a need to control my husband and my life. The sin God raised me up from and paid my sin price for. Some of it disgusting to me, I can only imagine how it hurt my Lord. There is a song we sing on Sunday that says, “Cast me not away from thy presence oh Lord, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.” That song quotes scripture and yet we are not taught that God can and will do that. Ponder what the word lost means. To live everyday without the Lord…….. Show me Lord how to detest what you detest. And if it divides…..I have to depend on and trust you to take that where it needs to go. All I can do is speak the truth. Thank you for your courage to do that. I guess I was thinking out loud here. Hope you don’t mind.

  4. Oh Amen amen and amen! How I love sensing the presence of the Lord when I read things like this from those who truly love Him! It just makes my heart dance and gives me that comforting feeling only the Holy Spirit can give! You truly know you’ve convicted someone when they attack you in that way. Doesn’t it just make you want to cling tighter to Jesus when that happens?

  6. Corem Deo,

    Thanks brother. I don’t know why I let these battles sneak up on me. It is always a surprise. I just think that Christians will be those whose regenerated heart will desire personal holiness and Christlikeness above all. Yes, please pray for me here. I cannot fight this in any abiblity I have in myself. I agree comepletly with your analysis and I appreciate the scripture you provided. Again, thank you brother!

  7. Mike,

    I followed the link to these posts from the Christian Research Network site. I don’t see conflict happening because of your previous post.

    I’m confused. I thought some people (the so-called “emergents”) were really laying the wood to you, but I don’t see it. I see questions in the comment threads, but not resistance/attacks.

    Is it all happening privately via email?

    btw, I think the post from Chambers is great.

  8. Awesome prayer. Our brother Steve Camp has a song entitled The Lord Is My Rock, based on Psalm 18, on one of his newest cds which I highly recommend;
    “David, Ordinary Man, Extraordinary God”.
    It is a favorite of mine. and goes right along the lines of this post.
    I can hear the protests now; “they all think that they are David”
    Deliver us Lord.

    I left a comment at one of the “opposing” blogs. I just couldn’t let it go by without some answer. One day they will realize that Jesus is not the wimp that they portray Him as and the father is not the benign, but unaware klutz, they describe Him as.

  9. Nathan,

    I have had some email from some who have read what is going on other blogs about this. I moderate comments on this blog, however, I have had only a few I found to be “attacks.” First, what I teach and share are from the Bible. If they are going to attack that then they are attacking what it says. They cannot beat the Holy Spirit.

  11. Mike,

    Conflict is sad but as we know, there times it cannot be avoided. I am in “conflict” with a friend…so much so that it seems that our friendship has come to a close because of our different views of Christ. But with this sadness I have great peace with my Maker…and that is really all I need.

    Please know that I have prayed and will pray for you. May God continue to reign in your daily walk with Him!

    I hope the following scriptures will be of some encouragement to you.

    “Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.” (Isaiah 50:10)

    “Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.…
    I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
    And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth: and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?” (Isaiah 51:7, 12-13)

    “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?…
    It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” (Psalm 118:6, 8)

    “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” (Galatians 6:6:4)

    “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)

    “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you false, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12)

    “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God.… For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1: 7-8, 12-13)

    “How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 18-21)

    “But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.” (Revelation 2:25)

    In Christ,
    Sherry
