The Superiority of Christ and the Cost of Discipleship

by Mike Ratliff

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:1-4 ESV)

The Church in the early part of the 21st Century is very sick. This sickness has not happened all at once. Instead, it is the result of centuries of compromise after compromise on the part of Christian leaders and their followers to adapt the Gospel and the Church doctrines to conform to what men want. As a result, the Church has lost its savor. It is no longer salty. The countries in Europe where the Reformers restored the Gospel at the cost of untold numbers of martyrs would not now be considered Christian at all.

In the United States, the visible Church still has some influence in politics and society, but is that what the Church is supposed to be about? The segment of the American Church that would consider itself evangelical has become so doctrinally shallow that most of the members as well as their leadership have no idea what they really believe. If they are confronted with the Arminain/Semi-Pelagian vs. Calvinism debate they would be clueless about what each side believes and does not believe. In fact, they are so spiritually shallow, they don’t understand why it is important to know what you believe and why you believe it.

The reason this sad state of affairs is prevalent in our time is that most professing Christians are fleshly and, therefore, hard of heart. They are self-focused and believe that they are Christians because they are religious or they made some decision when they were a child or their whole family has always been Christian, or they heard a sermon once that spoke of hell and it scared them into walking an aisle, praying a prayer and filling out a card. They may or may not have been baptized later. Is that how people become Christians? What is the mindset of these people in regards to Jesus Christ? How much of their time each day do they spend with Him or meditating about Him? How much of what He taught governs their lives? Is this real Christianity?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the Messiah despite what John Hagee teaches. He is over all. One of the major reasons the Church is so sick is that it has lost sight of the superiority of Christ and what that means.

And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:17-20 ESV)

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. What does that mean? He is Lord. He is not someone we can casually know. If we know Him then He knows us and that means we belong to Him as bondservants. He is our Saviour and Sovereign Lord. What He commands for us to do and not do we must obey Him no matter the cost.

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:3-4 ESV)

The Church these days, or at least segments of it, are into becoming familiar with spirits. Those doing this believe they are dealing with Angels, but they are doing this instead of focusing on Christ and relying on Him to be their all-in-all. What should our understanding be of  Jesus and the Angels?

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire.” But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.” And to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:5-14 ESV)

Angels are ministering spirits, but they work for our Lord. We are to worship and obey Him and not be concerned about them. How are we supposed to walk this walk?

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)

We are run the race set before us by faith with endurance looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. Why are we to look unto Jesus all the time? What’s wrong with just giving him a hour or two a week on Sunday’s? Is He the Lord of those who treat the one who endured the cross as if He is simply a fire insurance salesman? What will genuine salvation, the result of the washing of regeneration and the work of the Holy Spirit, look like? Is salvation earned or deserved? Does it come to those who will for it to be so?

Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:25-:27 ESV)

Let us not mince words here. This is too important a discussion to do that. There are two types of people. There are Christ’s disciples then there is the lost. There is no third group of people who are Christians, but not disciples. That is taught nowhere in the scripture. No, a person is either a disciple of our Lord, or they are not His. Look at the passage above. What is our Lord saying? He is saying that He is far superior to any other thing or person that we value. Those who are His disciples love Him more than anyone or anything else. They love Him and love that He loves them. They want to leave this life to be with Him. They possess the treasure that is the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and blessed hope.

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:28-33 ESV)

Counting the cost is to take Jesus words of the high cost of genuine discipleship and coming to the conclusion to receive Him as Lord and Saviour or to not do so. This is why Gospel preaching needs to be Law and Gospel. The Gospel needs to be explained to the hearers and that includes the bad news of the Law followed by the good news of saving faith being given to all who believe. However, that belief must include counting the cost. The hearer must see Jesus as He is. If they do not see Jesus as superior, and beautiful, and perfect, and the one they want to serve and love for the rest of their lives at the cost of their own lives, and all of their affections then they have not counted the cost and are not His disciples.

How can anyone make that decision to receive Him at such a high cost? We already know that no one can come to Christ unless the Father first gives him or her to our Lord (John 6:39) then He must draw them so they can believe. (John 6:44) Therefore, regeneration must take place first. This new birth brings to life that which was dead. This new creation is now spiritually alive and will see the high cost of being Jesus disciple, but then eagerly receive Him because He is superior to all things and everyone else. Their new nature loves Jesus and deeply desires to please Him with the way the disciple walks before the face of God.

Do you see the tragedy of the train wreck that the Church has become? It preaches Satan’s version of the Gospel that saves no one. I heard John MacArthur say yesterday that when Satan speaks the truth he is the most dangerous. The gospel that the new evangelism and the emergent movement and all liberal churches preach contains elements of truth mixed with man-focuses easy-believism. This is leading untold numbers of people into a false belief that they are Christians when they are not. Who are genuine Christians?

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me– not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” (John 6:44-58 ESV)

Does salvation, then, come to those who simply want to avoid Hell? Jesus tells us here that only those who enter into a blood covenant with Him are saved. These will live their lives within this covenant. To them Jesus is their all-in-all. They love Him and their lives are wrapped up in Him, not doing church stuff and just being religious, but in living their lives for Him in obedience to Him as their covenantal lives are lived out for His glory alone.

Genuine Salvation carries a high price tag. It costs the saved ones their lives. They give themselves to their Lord and live for Him and His glory alone. Is this the message heard from the pulpits in our churches on any given Sunday?

  1. Great post, Mike!

I cannot help but think of
John 3:30 – “He must increase, but I must decrease…”

Though dying to oneself is not the popular message, it is a MUST!

Thanks for the good and timely word. I am teaching through the Book of Hebrews and it has been very convicting in terms of counting the cost and resisting the temptation to abandon the Lord. There is so much inside the visible church and outside that comes against those who wish to walk as true disciples. I dare say that the past decade the battle has increased to almost unimaginable proportions. Grateful for His Grace, Wendy

  3. We will never suffer in our obedience to God as Christ did, but we will suffer. What I love about Hebrews 12:1-2 is that it shows our Lord’s focus during His great sufferings, that of looking upon the joy set before Him. This revealed to me that one can have joy in the midst of suffering, if that suffering is for Christ’s sake. As we suffer, the joy set before us is that God is glorified and Christ Jesus is exalted before others. We receive grace in our weaknesses to endure and others see that Christ is One worth living for and coming to know as Lord and Savior. All who belong to Christ have willing spirits but our flesh is weak. By God’s grace giving strength and for the joy set before us may our sufferings bring glory to the Lord of lords and King of kings. Amen.

  4. Wendy,

What you shared here about what you learned from studying Hebrews is what differentiates the Disciple from the simply religious. Scary isn’t it? How many of those people we sit with on Sunday mornings in our churches are simply relgious and don’t know our Saviour this way? He is our all-in-all and outside of Him we are nothing at all. Oh, to be with Him now!

  5. Amen, well said Sherry C! Yes, who are we to assume that God owes us an easy tranquil life here in this flesh? John Piper said that in the scale of eternity this life is for about two seconds, if that much. 🙂 Yes, suffering is no fun, but we can have joy in the midst of it if our eyes are fixed on Him and the prize that awaits us with Him. I want so much to be free of this place of sin and be with my Lord.

  6. That’s really an excellent post. I grew up in the deception of the “liberal” movement. They would often preach that we needed to embrace suffering, but their reasons were so finite, that the suffering is in solidarity with others who suffer and little more. Sin was rarely mentioned if at all. When we realize that our suffering is a result of sin, we can live into true liberation theology – liberated not just from earthly oppression, but liberated from the wretched chains that sin would bind us in. Hallelujah, for it is for freedom that Christ has set us free!

May I ask one thing? I have never been a great fan of John Hagee for several reasons, but I have never heard anyone say Jesus is the Messiah despite what Hagee teaches! Can you explain that one? I’m just interested…. and its always helpful for a pastora to know these things to teach her congregation!

    Many blessings!

  7. Jennifer,

Thank you for your comment. Jesus is THE CHRIST. The word Christ is his title and is the Greek word that represents the Hebrew word Messiah. John 1:41 and John 4:25.

    Jennifer,
Apparently Hagee teaches that Jews are saved through the Old Covenant and not the New Covenant.

“Hagee reported to the Houston Chronicle that he believes that Jews already have a covenant with God and a relationship to God and do not need to come to the cross. Hearing this is startling. Hagee told the newspaper:
“I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption.”

  11. Thanks for your great post, dearly beloved watchman of The Most High God Jesus Christ.

Truly when satan speaks truth it is no longer truth for as Jesus said….satan is a liar and the father of lies. It is as having a glass of water and then adding another liquid to it. No matter the amount of the foreign liquid one no longer has a glass of pure water once the foreign liquid is added. So it is with truth that has a lie added. It is no longer truth. We MUST have God’s truth preached faithfully in complete agreement with His inerrant and infallible Word. Hagee is now exposed to the true children of God as antichrist. Bless God for His faithfulness to His true children. How merciful and gracious is He!

We did not know until today that Hagee would not even mention Jesus’ Name at “Night To Honor Israel” functions. This type of silent denouncement of Jesus’ Name at functions pertaining to Israel by what call themselves “Christian” ministers is something experienced in 2003 on a Perry Stone tour of Israel. Posted something this morning that speaks on this. The entry is still awaiting moderation. It is as follows:

Was in Israel on a 2003 tour with Perry Stone when I personally witnessed Perry’s failure to even name Jesus’ Name before a Kinnesset member who had been invited to speak with our group. Several Old Testament names were mentioned but not The LORD Jesus Christ’s Name. The closest mention of Jesus came in mentioning the term “Christian”. Perry was being awarded an honor by the Kinnesset member for the support of Israel as it pertained to financial inflow to Israel from tours. When asked to pray the final prayer at this presentation, the President of Noseworthy Travel prayed a prayer and closed it with something like “in that great Name” in benediction but no actual mention of Jesus’ Name at all. I was appalled at all of this. I couldn’t believe what I had both seen and heard with Jesus’ Name never mentioned before the Kinnesset member yet we had been told to show respect for the very conservative Kinnesset member and were led to stand in respect when he arrived. Not long after returning to the US, I watched a program in which Perry Stone was preaching hard at a camp meeting type of meeting how that we are to NEVER be ashamed of The Name of Jesus. He was preaching this with great fervor to great approval from those in attendance. He talked about how we were to NEVER be silenced about Jesus, etc. His words here sure did not match what I had personally witnessed from him in Israel before the Kinnesset member just months before!!!

This of John Hagee renouncing Jesus as The Messiah has come as a shock yet he is but one who pets and hand-holds Israel with a feigned support of Israel while quoting “those who bless her shall be blessed and those who curse her shall be cursed”. How much more of a blessing could a blessing be than to give The Gospel of The LORD Jesus to Israel and the Jews? To withhold this glorious Gospel of Jesus is to curse Israel and the Jews. We are to proclaim Jesus’ Gospel and His impending judgements to those who reject Him just as Ezekial was commanded to do by Almighty God “whether they will hear or whether they will forebear”. (Read chapter 2 of Ezekial.)

It is interesting that Hagee speaks of Jesus Christ without true revelation that “Christ” MEANS Messiah. He has purposefully deleted from his Bible Jesus’ message of being The Messiah (along with all of the prophecies of old that were fulfilled by The LORD Jesus Christ) thus becoming antichrist. Did he do it for book sales? Did he do it for approval and accolades from Israel? Why would he lay down The Gospel of The LORD Jesus and renounce Him in this manner? Was he ALWAYS antichrist?

May God continue to expose the wolves and give us the strength we all need to FLEE the wolves of these last days for they are false shepherds and false prophets and false teachers and are of spiritual Babylon. If we indeed run and flee from spiritual Babylon, God shall receive us as His people just as He has promised us. God is showing His true people compassion and great mercy by exposing the false to us. Let us run and flee in great haste by the power of The Holy Ghost.

Sincerely in The LORD and ONLY Savior Jesus Christ,

  12. Shalom everyone,

I cannot say this enough and as a recently withdrawn member of CUFI, I have to say the following about Hagee’s warmongering antichristian ministry…

    1 John 2:22-23
Who is a liar but he that denieth that >>>Jesus is the Christ?<> He is antichrist<<<<, that denieth the Father and the Son.
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Blasphemy and heresy are two things that define John Hagee’s ministry. Denying Jesus is the Christ and warmongering are the traits of John Hagee. For John Hagee to deny that Jesus Christ is not the Messiah is not only astonishing but worse is that so-called American Evangelical leaders have not come out to condemn John Hagee and his new book ‘In Defense of Israel’ in which he denies relentlessly in order to please his Christian Zionist Movement and Zionists that Jesus Christ is not the Messiah.

Below is an excerpts from John Hagee’s Book ‘In Defense of Israel’ originally posted on Biblewheel.com in their review of John Hagee’s Heretic Book ‘In Defense of Israel’… As one sees, this is pure heresy and blasphemy of the highest order…
“In his book In Defense of Israel (2007), beginning in the section called “The Jews did not Reject Jesus as Messiah” (p. 132) John Hagee relentlessly twisted Scripture in his attempt to prove that Jesus Christ did not come “to be Messiah to the Jews.” His denial of Jesus as the Christ (Messiah) cannot be overlooked as a mere “slip of his pen” because he repeated his assertion “seven ways from Sunday” as seen in this sample of seven quotes from his book:
If God intended for Jesus to be the Messiah of Israel, why didn’t he authorize Jesus to use supernatural signs to prove he was God’s Messiah, just as Moses had done? (p. 137)
Jesus refused to produce a sign … because it was not the Father’s will, nor his, to be Messiah. (p 138)
If Jesus wanted to be Messiah, why did he repeatedly tell his disciples and followers to “tell no one” about his supernatural accomplishments? (p. 139)
The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah; it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews. (p. 140)
They wanted him to be their Messiah, but he flatly refused. (p. 141)
He refused to be their Messiah, choosing instead to be the Savior of the world (p. 143)
Jesus rejected to the last detail the role of Messiah in word or deed. (p. 145)
…Let us begin with this quote from pages 137-138:
If God intended for Jesus to be the Messiah of Israel, why didn’t he authorize Jesus to use supernatural signs to prove he was God’s Messiah, just as Moses had done? The Jews, knowing of Moses’s signs to Israel, asked for a supernatural sign that Jesus was indeed their Messiah. Jesus answered:
No sign will be given…except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. — Matthew 12:39-40
Jesus refused to give a sign. He only compared himself with the prophet Jonah, who carried the message of repentance from God to the Gentiles in Nineveh.”
    http://www.biblewheel.com/RR/Hagee_Defense_of_Israel.asp
Refuting John Hagee’s Heresy that Jesus is not the Christ…
What John Hagee is doing is preparing Israel and the Jews to receive another Messiah, a false Messiah, and an Antichrist. John Hagee is also preparing the undiscerning Church to welcome the Antichrist. These are truly the last days as the Bible warns. What John Hagee is promoting is nothing less that the Antichrist Gospel. It is an Antichrist spirit speaking through John Hagee that Jesus is not the Christ…

    1 John 2:22-23
    (22) Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
    (23) Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

There are 532 Bible Verses and more in the New Testament that speak about Jesus Christ as the Messiah or The Christ, The Anointed One… I will only note the bible verses in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in which Jesus Christ personally speaks of Himself as The Christ (Messiah, The Anointed One)… All these scriptures contradict John Hagee’s teaching that Jesus Christ is not the messiah…

Jesus Christ acknowledges Peter’s confession that He is The Christ…
    Matthew 16:13-20
    (13) When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
    (14) And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
    (15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
    (16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
    (17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
    (18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
    (19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
    (20) Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

Jesus Christ points out to the Pharisees that He is The Christ…
    Matthew 22:41-46
    (41) While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
    (42) Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
    (43) He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
    (44) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
    (45) If David then call him, Lord, how is he his son?
    (46) And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Jesus Christ tells the disciples to call no one Master except Jesus the Christ…
    Matthew 23:8-10
    (8) But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
    (9) And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
    (10) Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

Jesus confesses that He is the Christ…
    Matthew 26:63-64
    (63) But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
    (64) Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jesus acknowledges that He is the Christ…
    Mark 9:41
    (41) For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

Jesus acknowledges that He is the Christ…
    Mark 14:61-62
    (61) But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
    (62) And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jesus had already confessed to the Jews that He is The Christ but they believed not… Jesus confesses that He is the Christ…
    Luke 22:66-71
    (66) And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
    (67) Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
    (68) And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
    (69) Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
    (70) Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
    (71) And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

Jesus was already confessing that He was the Christ and when Pilate asked him to respond to the accusations, Jesus Did not Deny that He is Christ but agreed and acknowledged that He is Christ…He confessed that He is Christ….
    Luke 23:2-3
    (2) And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
    (3) And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

After Jesus Christ rose from the Dead (a sign of the Messiah), He met two men on the road to Emmaus and Jesus Christ spoke of Himself to them as The Christ and how Christ had to suffer these things, be killed and rise from the dead on the third day…
    Luke 24:25-27
    (25) Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
    (26) Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
    (27) And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

    Luke 24:45-47
    (45) Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,
    (46) And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
    (47) And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Jesus Christ explicitly confesses that He is The Christ (Messiah, the Anointed One)…
    John 4:25-26
    (25) The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
    (26) Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Jesus Christ had already confessed to the Jews that He is The Christ and they believed not… When He further described how He is Christ, that He and His Father are one, the Jews took stones to stone Him…
    John 10:24-33
    (24) Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
    (25) Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
    (26) But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
    (27) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
    (28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
    (29) My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
    (30) I and my Father are one.
    (31) Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
    (32) Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
    (33) The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Jesus Christ explicitly confesses that He is The Christ…
    John 17:1-4
    (1) These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
    (2) As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
    (3) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
    (4) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

John the apostle sums it up well that all these things which were recorded in the Book of John were written so that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God…a thing which John Hagee now denies…
    John 20:30-31
    (30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
    (31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Refuting John Hagee’s Heresy of Christian warmongering…
It is not surprising that John Hagee believes in MURDER. He has relentlessly called for the USA to bomb Iran but to nuke Iran. I wonder what those few Christians and Jews who live inside Iran think about John Hagee.

Brethren, lets be very careful, the Bible does not call us to avenge our enemies with weapons of the flesh, and the bible does not call us to carry out warfare with swords and guns. Remember what Jesus Christ told Peter when peter cut off the ear of one of those who had come to arrest Jesus Christ… Those who live by the sword will perish by the sword…

Don’t be deceived in joining John Hagee and other warmongers around the world, those who do so will find themselves burning in the flames of Hell where all warmongers will go… The Bible clearly forbids us in engaging in warmongering and fighting using swords and guns… Those who live by the sword will perish by the sword…

The YNET News, an Israel News Outlet quoted John Hagee calling for the US to take military action against Iran… There is no doubt that John Hagee is war hungry and has taken his support for Israel in terms of flesh and blood. John Hagee has become blood thirsty with his warmongering rhetoric…

“The group’s founder, the Reverend John Hagee, declared, “We support Israel because we are Bible-believing Christians,” and said the world needs to see that “the sleeping giant of Christian Zionism has awakened.” Hagee said that the entire Christian world kept quiet during World War II and allowed the genocide of the Jewish people. “This time we will not be silent,” Hagee said. At “A Night to Honor Israel” banquet, Hagee called on President Bush to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He also called for American divestment from Iran, which he compared to Nazi Germany as a threat to the Jewish people.
Hagee said Mideast tensions shouldn’t be blamed on Israel, but on Islamic radicals and moderate Muslims who won’t condemn them.
Hagee continued to warn against Iranian President Ahmadinejad, calling him the new Hitler, saying the Iranian president will use a nuclear bomb to destroy Israel the first chance he gets…Ahmandinejad must be stopped, Hagee said, calling on the United State to attack Iran immediately.”

John Hagee goes to the extreme when he calls for America to defend Israel and that failure to do so will cause the wrath of God to fall on America by Russia attacking the USA…

“But Hagee doesn’t stop there. He adds that Ezekiel predicts fire “upon those who live in security in the coastlands.” From this sentence, he concludes that there will be judgment upon all who stood by while the Russian-led force invaded Israel, and issues a stark warning to the United States to intervene: “Could it be that America, who refuses to defend Israel from the Russian invasion, will experience nuclear warfare on our east and west coasts?” He says yes, citing Genesis 12:3, in which God said to Israel: “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you.” “ http://www.alternet.org/story/39748/

This seems like some kind of ‘Bible Prophesy Blackmail’… In other words America can help steer away God’s Judgment on her by helping Israel deal with her enemies, especially attack Iran and do away with her nuclear weapons… This line of reasoning is that if America can ‘take out’ Iran’s Nuclear Facilities, then God will protect America from a Russian Invasion…the attacking of Iran by America will please God to protect America… John Hagee’s reasoning is not only flawed but blasphemy. God does not need America to Defend Israel if He God needs to do so.

An Excerpt from John Hagee’s supposedly ‘Best Selling Book’, “Jerusalem Countdown” was posted on ‘The Hill Chronicles’ Website http://www.thehillchronicles.com . John Hagee’s book is nothing but a hate breeder, one that subtly uses the support for Israel among undiscerning Christians to call for the murder of the enemies of Israel…

“John Hagee’s bestselling book, “Jerusalem Countdown,” endorses a preemptive military strike on Iran. The Rev. John Hagee, a nationally known pastor from San Antonio, Texas, told a gathering at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg in September 2006 that America must win the war against terrorists who embrace radical Islam.

    Excerpts:
“Ladies and gentlemen, America is at war with radical Islam,” Hagee said. “Jihad has come to America. If we lose the war to Islamic fascism, it will change the world as we know it.”
“People say ‘When is the army coming.’ The army is not coming. It’s here,” he said. “They are waiting to respond as terrorist cells against this nation. It is a war between the culture of death and the culture of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is a war that we must win, period.”
“Our crisis is that half of America doesn’t know the war has started,” Hagee said. “This is a religious war.”
“They hate us because we are free,” Hagee said. “They hate us because it is their religious duty to hate us. They are trained from the breast of their mother to hate us. Radical Islam is a doctrine of death. It is their desire, it is their hope, it is their ambition, it is their highest honor to die in a war against infidels. And you are ‘infidels’ and there is nothing you can do to accommodate them. That’s what makes them so dangerous.”
“Russia is all over the Middle East in an antagonistic position against the United States,” Hagee said. “Our president and our government needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Mr. (Vladamir) Putin is not for us, he’s against us.”
“What’s happening with Hezbollah is nothing more than Iran’s long arm reaching out in the Middle East,” he said. “What is happening in Iraq is nothing more than Iran’s long arm reaching out and sticking a finger in the eye of the United States of America. If freedom wins in Iraq, radical Islam is finished. I’m proud of our troops in Iraq.”
“We as a nation are at war with a determined enemy. It is time for America to realize that we must win this war at all costs.”
“Iran is swimming in oil money that came from your gas tank,” “
    http://thehillchronicles.com/?p=633

John Hagee uses fear to captivate his undiscerning ‘Soccer Mum’, ‘SUV Driving Dads’, and ‘Nintendo Video Game Youth’ audience and psychologically condition them that the threat to their lifestyle is America not dealing militarily with the Iranian Threat.

Jesus Christ has NEVER called us to use arms, nuclear weapons, and States to fight our enemies. The message of Jesus Christ is clear, we must forgive, we must love, and we must work towards peace in Christ Jesus. Yes, we must pray for the Moslems and forgive and not return an eye for an eye as John Hagee is preaching.

Brethren, John Hagee is preaching hatred and not the Love of Jesus Christ. Even though a number of Moslems (including many anti Semitic none Moslems around the world, remember Hitler was not a Moslem yet had hate for the Jews) might have hate for the nation Israel and some wish Israel to be ‘wiped off the map’…yet The Lord says vengeance is His and not ours…

    Romans 12:19-21
    (19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
    (20) Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
    (21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Remember our call is to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to ALL Nations including Moslem Nations. Jesus Christ gave His life for all Nations including the Moslems. So, how are you going to preach the gospel to Moslems if you are calling for America to nuke them?

    Matthew 28:19-20
    (19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
    (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Certainly The Lord is NOT with ‘Christian Mullah John Hagee’ as he is disobeying the command to preach the gospel to All Nations…John Hagee is calling instead for the destruction of Islamic Nations like Iran.

John Hagee falls short of this calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to ALL Nations and should be dismissed as a warmonger and a heretic by all God fearing, Peace Loving, and True Christians who love and obey the Commandments of Jesus Christ.

John Hagee stands a very dangerous ‘Christian Mullah’ doing the very thing that Islamic Radicals Mullahs call for, The Destruction of Israel… ‘Christian Mullah John Hagee’ calls for The Destruction of Iran and Moslems, a thing that Jesus Christ has never told us to do and is totally against the teachings of Jesus Christ…

Jesus Christ was very clear that His Kingdom is NOT of this world otherwise His followers would have fought for Him…

Those who use Jesus Christ’s Name in pursuit for war which is Oil war in the case of John Hagee are liars and going against the Teachings of Jesus Christ. Brethren, the Bible has not called us to fight our enemies but forgive them…This is the Teaching of Jesus Christ…

Jesus Christ taught that blessed are the peacemakers…not warmongers…
    Matthew 5:9
    (9) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Jesus Christ taught forgiveness, loving your enemies, not to revenge, and none violence…
    Matthew 5:38-48
    (38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
    (39) But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
    (40) And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
    (41) And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
    (42) Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
    (43) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
    (44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
    (45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
    (46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
    (47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
    (48) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Jesus Christ taught those who live by the sword will perish by the sword… We can say that those who live by the gun will perish by the gun…a stern warning to so-called Christian warmongers, dictators, and murderers…
    Matthew 26:51-54
    (51) And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.
    (52) Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
    (53) Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
    (54) But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Jesus Christ is clear that His Kingdom is NOT of this world…John Hagee’s Kingdom is that of America’s New World Order System and its imperialistic ambitions in the Middle East – which is a quest for Oil…so John Hagee can call for the US to nuke Iran but Jesus Christ’s Kingdom is NOT of this world…
    John 18:36
    (36) Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Our warfare as Christians is not through flesh and blood, not through swords, guns, and nuclear weapons but is spiritual… Our enemies as Christians are NOT Moslems but the spiritual forces in the dark places… And we overcome such spiritual forces by obeying the Commandments of Jesus Christ…not through so-called spiritual mapping…we overcome by Loving Jesus Christ and Obeying His Commandments…
    Ephesians 6:12
    (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Those who live by the sword will be killed by the sword… Those who live by guns will die by guns… tyrants, dictators; murderers who live by the gun will die by the gun… Warmongers who live by warmongering will die through warmongering… This is a stern warning to Christians not to involve themselves in the wars of this world but rather be peacemakers and forgiving…
    Revelation 13:10
    (10) He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

  13. John, I agree with your assessment on Hagee. However, we must always come to the defence of our nation and other nations when attacked by the enemy. I had to stop reading your dissertation when you took the “turn the other cheek” scripture out of context. That is for personal offence. We must never avoid war when we see others getting their cheeks slapped, especially our own nation. It is one thing that we, as individuals, turn the other cheek, but quite another to let it happen to someone else. There is a difference between avenging the innocent and taking revenge on the enemy who is smiting you personally. As far as Perry Stone, he is one to avoid. He partners with Paula White quite often and teaches heresy. The last teaching I watched of theirs concerned being healed by taking communion every day and praying a certain prayer. It was that teaching that woke me up where WOF was concerned.

  14. Thank you all who responded to my question. That is really helpful. Isn’t it amazing how people twist the Truth that Jesus is the Messiah of both the Jews and the Gentiles…

    Praise God for your astuteness.
