I Need a Break

It has come to the attention of some that what happened to me at the end of this last summer was some sort of burn-out. This caused the re-occurance of my seizure disorder that had lain dormant since 1976. In any case, if you have read any of my articles you have probably noticed how they have not only grown shorter and shorter over the last several months, they have also grown a lot less complex and with a lot less Greek exegesis, etc. The last time I tried to put together one of those heavily exegetically, really complex articles, when it came time for pull all the points together the anxiety level in my mind was so high that I thought I was going to lose it. There is something very wrong. I think I have hit that threshold. I work in my mind. I work with people who do everything on paper. They do not have this problem I do everything in my mind. I just have too many balls in the air at the same time I guess. I can’t be a Greek student, a DBA, a Grandpa, a good husband, a Dad, a writer, a researcher, a Christian apologist, a high end photographer, et cetera with all of that being juggled and kept in the “air” in my mind any more I suppose.

In any case, I am taking several days off starting today (April 28th). I will be on a camping trip to Oklahoma and will return Sunday (May 2) late. I will be on vacation through Monday (May 3). I will work Tuesday, go to the doctor on Wednesday and go back to Oklahoma Thursday through Sunday (May 9th). So, I will be offline through May 8th or 9th. We’ll see. Please pray for me during this time.

Soli Deo Gloria!

  2. Hi Mike
Abide in Him -the only place to abide, where nothing else matters, but Him. May He grant you the quietness of mind, that the anxiety will pass, that the unconscious/conscious need to be all to everyone will vanish and that your strength will come from no other Source and lastly that you will allow Him to ‘blow’ you where He will.

Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us, your brothers and sisters – we will surely pray for you and hold you up before the Lord.
    Bless you my dear brother
    Steph

  3. Things can overwhelm us and build up, and we don’t realize it until it peaks and hits us like a Mack truck. Take some much needed time off and rest Mike. We’ll be here when you get back. R and R is in order for you. Enjoy and know that we are out here praying for you.

  5. I live in a small town, had always attended a small church, do not have a big socail life…… BUT every person I know with a viable Christian testimony is being pushed to these “extremes”. Our pastor used to tell us that were like olives in an olive press….the Lord would press and press and press us……the first thing to come out is , of course, our flesh….but he works on us till the oil of the Holy Spirit flows from us when we are pressed in the worst circumstances of life. Hope you will see the oil flowing on your break. Enjoy the camping!

  7. Ditto to all the comments above, Brother! We will definitely be praying for you as you find refreshment and nourishment for your spiritual, physical, emotional and mental needs. God has used and will continue to use you in powerful ways to be a blessing to the Body of Christ. I know that you give Him the glory for it all, and that you are a yielded vessel in the Master’s hands. As you seek refuge in His bosom during your break, just know that He will continue to keep you as the apple of His eye, and that HIS touch will give you all the sustenance and rejuvenation that you need. Thanking God for you, Brother, and praying that you’ll have a wonderful experience!

  9. Ditto everyone’s counsel!

Mike, get a break, slow down as the Lord allows, and rely on the Spirit to give you a ‘second wind’ in His timing. As Sandra touched on, even the Son of God took time to ‘get away’ and ‘recharge’. This side of eternity and the promse of our Master and Lord to perfect us in holiness, we are merely men (and women, of course!), vesssels of glory He purposely maintains as weak so that His strength shines through to the glory of God.

I recall that last year, Paul Washer discussed something of a break, as he had pushed himself beyond all wise measure and feared it would only result poor service to Christ and His sheep. Godly responsibility includes discerning our own weaknesses and shortcomings and the addressing of them according to the Holy Spirit.

I pray that our Sabbath Rest will bring you alongside Himself, to refresh the body and renew the mind, so that when He wills, you can return to the good work our Father in Heaven has predestined you to walk in.

May God in His grace bless your rest even as He has blessed us through your faithful studies and writings!

  10. Really does sound as if you need some mountain time. I have had this in my own life recently and noticed my tolerance levels slipping as a result, not good.( Yes indeed Mum say my 3 children). May you hear God clearly with regard to what he wants for you now and may you find in him the rest you need.
