In Hypocrisy of Ones Speaking Lies Having Been Seared In Their Own Conscience

ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων, κεκαυστηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν (1 Timothy 4:2 NA27)

In hypocrisy of ones speaking lies, having been seared in their own conscience… (a personal translation of 1 Timothy 4:2 from the NA27 Greek text)

I have made clear what all Christian’s stance should be on homosexuality here. That stance is biblical and any attempt to soften, change, or redirect it has as its source the father of all lies and enemy of our souls. My friend Ken Silva posted an article yesterday titled Christianity 21 To Attack Christian Sexuality. To be honest, the spew that comes from “Christianity 21” no longer surprises me. What would surprise me is if they repented, reversed course, dropped all the post-modern pretense, and submitted themselves to the Jesus Christ as Lord. The reason that would be such a surprise is, of course, once apostasy takes over a person, they depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demon, (1 Timothy 4:1) and it is like watching water circling a drain. Eventually, it will enter the drain and be sucked into the sewer.

(1 Timothy 4:1-5 NA27)

Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith giving heed to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, In hypocrisy of ones speaking lies, having been seared in their own conscience, forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods, which God created fro partaking with thanksgiving by the believers and ones having known the truth. Because every creation of God is good and nothing is to be rejected with thanksgiving being received. For it is being sanctified through the Word of God and intercession. (a personal translation of 1 Timothy 4:1-5 from the NA27 Greek text)

I want to focus on the noun” hypocrisy” that translates ὑποκρίσει in the passage above, which is the dative, singular case of ὑπόκρισις or hupokrisis, “(figuratively) deceit (“hypocrisy”): – condemnation, dissimulation, hypocrisy.Hypocrisy is pretending to act one way while secretly acting in a different (often the opposite) way. For example, Jesus’ enemies pretend they want to learn something from him by asking him a question, but their true intent is to find reason to arrest him and put him on trial (Mark 12:15; Matthew 23:28). Jesus called this sort of hypocrisy “the yeast of the Pharisees” (Luke 12:1).

Let us be honest and true to what Sacred Scripture says and, therefore, not hypocrites. To compromise what God’s Word says for the sake of post-modern “values” such as what Tony Jones, Doug Pagitt, Brian McLaren, et al are teaching as their “version of Christianity” fits this warning by Paul to Timothy exactly. These people have departed from the faith giving heed to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. What they teach as “truth” is done in hypocrisy of ones speaking lies. They have that straight face when they do it because their conscience has been seared.

You have been warned. For those of you who have considered this sort of discernment work to be mean or divisive, et cetera. I have no apology. The passage I just gave you was from Paul’s own hand and in other places he even gives the names of those to the church in warning. Flee from all who teach what is not clearly taught in God’s Word. Turn from all who teach that God wants each of you to be more concerned about offending someone instead of leading them to the Cross of Christ. Post-modernist thinking and political correctness is the noise that confusing the distracted in our time. Oh Lord, wake up your Church!

Soli Deo Gloira!

  1. Ever google U.N. Agenda 21? Sustainable communities & sustainable development. Is it a co-incidence this number 21?
    I think not…

  2. I believe you Mickey. Back in the 60’s when I was in my teens one of my favorite shows in TV was Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone. I’m sure you know about it. Ever since my old church turned on me back in 2005-2006 after I took a stand for being Biblical instead of culturally oriented, well, there are times I feel like I have been stuck in one of his episodes that just won’t end…

  3. Amen Mike! May our gracious Father raise up His people to speak truth boldly as we stand firm; may He be merciful and save sinners. Come quickly Lord Jesus!

Standing firm on the Rock of my salvation,

  4. First, thank you for NOT apologizing for the truth!
I really get sick of people trying to sugar-coat things to make them more palatable.
Sometimes the pill is very bitter and hard to swallow, but Jesus gives us the Spirit to
    help with that!
I have been reading William Gurnall’s “Christian In Complete Armor”, vol. 2, and the first
part is about hypocrites. Contrasting hypocrisy with sincerity. A few quotes stuck out to me:

“The trademark of a hypocrite is that he is a nobody except on stage. He courts the world for
applause and will do anything to have it.”

“The gross hypocrite who intends to deceive others lives in a religious environment without doors.”

“The hypocrite is bred by the serpent, and like him, shrinks up or lengthens himself out to his
best advantage, unwilling to expose himself to others. He has good reason too, because he
has the most credibility where he is least known.”

    “not too many days”

  5. Mike I know what you mean about feeling like it’s the twilight zone….I often feel like Alice in Wonderland…meeting all kinds of strange creatures and people who say (and do) the weirdest things…things you would never have thought in a million years. We see the grace and goodness of the Lord that He gave us the scriptures which turn the world right side up again! How thankful I am. And that he also graciously gave us these warning passages so that we would know what is happening, because otherwise we would be left just scratching our heads, or going along with the prevailing human wisdom du jour.

  6. It has made me realize something. We used to think in terms of the “good ole days.” Guess what? The world is still the same as always, there is nothing new under the sun Ecc 1:9. In truth, we were naive, thinking that there were good times, but there never was. We have just had the scales removed from our eyes to see things as they reallly are, not as we might wish them to be, or as they may have been deceitfully portrayed. Human hearts have always been sinful; granted more and more restraints have been removed. But in reality, ever since the fall, the world has been enslaved to sin and now we are seeing more and more the bitter fruit of it.

  7. Julie, yes, I know that the world is just a wicked as it has always been. What is so distressing to me is how that wickedness has invaded the church. It is as if there is little to any difference any more.

  8. Mike, you must see that a 501 (c)(3) religious corporation, that owns a building, and holds religious meetings is not and never was the church that Jesus is building. The problem isn’t the building, it is the religious corporation that we are called out of, because it is a product of the world and it’s prince. The vast majority of it’s congregants, and leaders are sons of the serpent…just like Jesus encountered in His earth walk. He called His own out of that system then, and calls them out today.
The Reformation was a move of God that has become co-opted by the sons of serpents since then, and is the many daughters of the Great Whore…the mother of many harlots. The church that Jesus is building has always been healthy, we just look at the beast system that mimics it but is run by the deeds of the Nicolaitans, and we are perplexed. Jesus was on the outside knocking in Revelation, and continues to do so today. Just because we who are His choose to attend the religious services thinking we are in fellowship, but really being alone in a crowd, doesn’t make it the church..that is, the one He alone builds. The more we continue to resist this truth, the more frustrated we become, the more perplexed we become, the more miserable we become….
We are out of that rat race now 5 years, and because He alone leads/guides/teaches/reveals, the more mature and at peace we are in Him.
In my area, there are no longer any traditional churches functioning. Our friends who choose to stay are nothing more then spiritual bonzai trees, chasing every wind of doctrine, following Him for what He can do for them, not Who He is.
How is it that the folks who reply here are in one accord with regards to Jesus as Lord, and yet the ministers and deacons inside every church building, along with the congregants they attract, are continually in turmoil? Because what we have, they lack!

  9. Mickey that is a very apt description, especially that part about our being perplexed, frustrated, and…miserable.. yes, that pretty much sums up how I am when I ponder our church situation here. When we attend, we are always welcome, but I sense right away that there some there who are genuine mixed in with a lot of those who are there just for the religiosity. Compare what we are discussing with the Federal Vision heresy… They would call us the heretics for even suggesting that anyone who has been baptized is not a believer let alone a preacher or teacher be false… yes, frustrated, perplexed, and at times very miserable except when I fellowship with my Lord in prayer and worship as I am right now with some good music and His Word as I interact with you and others.

  10. Mike, I had to go read on this Fed. Vis. Heresy…Which I wish I hadn’t. What EVER HAPPENED to the simplicity of Christ?
(I’m not questioning or yelling at you, simply making an obvious point. LOL) Can we not take Him at His Word? For example, “As often as you do this do it in rememberance of Me.” Do what? Have communion! Either it was a regularly scheduled feast observance as Passover, or it was a daily supping, by the breaking of bread and drinking the cup, by the brethern. Bread and wine were meal staples, so 3 times every day I/we/they eat/ate bread and drink/drank the cup! (Leaving out the wedding implications from the traditions of their day.) Our modern traditions have turned it into a monthly “chip and a sip.” What was His meaning? For me it is a daily, continual reminder, as often as I eat and drink i am proclaiming His death til He comes! All meals with brothers/sisters in the Lord (family/friends) are then a non-ritualistic communion to me.
I am wearied by the religion of the “intellectual clergy/laity’ who turn every good thing into a formal discussion unto another doctrine/creed/tradition/requirement.
The early church continued to daily gather and sup from home to home in fellowship, Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Which the modern system
co-opted with their “acts242 focus group religion)
Every simple thing gets co-opted and made into a religious event, destroying the simplicity of this walk. (Simple should not be confused with easy!)
Again, we walked away, heeding His call to fellowship, and His peace, which passes all understanding, envelopes us regardless of the trials/circumstances. We do not forsake the assembling, we simply allow Him to orchestrate the assembling…and He always does, usually in twos and threes, either with friends/aquaintances or strangers, who are one in the bond of his love. Abiding in Him continually, sure beats “entering in and then departing” continuously. No more “I can’t wait for Sunday or I can’t wait for Wednesday night., for we abide in Him and every day is the Lord’s day! Oh, and the ‘building’ can be Walmart, or Perkins, or Panera, or our living rooms/dining rooms. but to be completly transparent, there are precious few who can not attempt to return to the 501c3 temples.

I sure hope this is a blessing to you and your readers, and that it spurrs us all on to seek a more intimate walk with thei Lord, and the only God of the universe. When we reach heaven we will spend eternity in worship of Him, why would we want to wait until then? Further, if we don’t want to now, are we really keeping our hand on the plow, or are we looking back and not worthy of our calling?
