Spiritual Darkness Unbelief and Unrighteousness

by Mike Ratliff

4 And Jesus was saying to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.” 5 And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He was marveling at their unbelief.
And He was going around the villages teaching.nMark 6:4-6 (LSB)

The joy of the Lord is a tremendous gift to God’s people from him. Without it we would be left to deal with far more evil, disappointment, tragedy, distress, and despair than we could ever do on our own. We have prayer and the promise that we can always come boldly to the Throne of Grace.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us take hold of our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things like we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 (LSB)

I watched some videos today while at lunch that showed the reaction of many of the spokespersons from the Main Stream Media and other politically leaning left groups as they reacted to the outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election. These reactions were from the immediate two days after the 3rd of November. Some of the people from CNN for example could not even make complete sentences they were so overcome with emotion. The one that really got my attention though was a spokesperson for a Social Justice group. He said that the attempts by the Trump Campaign and his supporters to force recounts and expose corruption in the election process were “Racist.” Yes, that is what he said.

During and after the 2016 election I lost a boatload of Facebook friends. During the 2020 election I lost a lot of friends on Facebook as well, but these were different. These were people I had been reaching out to with the light of the Gospel. I had been giving them the truth yet as it became clear that I was not participating the ‘you must live in fear tyranny’ coming from certain government institutions as they proclaimed that the Covid-19 outbreak had become a “Pandemic” when it was really far less lethal than the seasonal flu and I refused to allow anyone to bash our President with all sorts of outlandish accusations then I ended up having to sever a lot more Facebook relationships.

However, what is most disturbing to me during all this is when professing Christians fall into that pit of hate and lies I just described. They have become part of that “darkness” and because of that, they will no longer listen to reason. They will no longer listen to clear Biblical evidence that “the way” they are on only leads to destruction. Isn’t it interesting that those professing Christians doing that are also on the Social Justice, Critical Race Theory, and Intersectionality way?

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, both His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the likeness of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Romans 1:18-25 (LSB)

The god of this age is self and if you go to a “church” that is part of the postmodern madness then you will witness idolatry described in Romans 1:18-25 in action because everything within the scope of that religion is man-centeredness. What has God done to those who refuse to give Him his proper place as creator and head of His Church? He has given them over to their own false religion so that they believe it is true while they view what is actually true, which is Genuine Christianity as that which is false. We can almost envision our Lord Jesus Christ being described as, “He was amazed on account of their unbelief” as these false professors worship the creature, putting man and creation above the creator by reinterpreting the Great Commission according to their “greater wisdom.”

Why is it that these people are deaf to the truth? Why is it that they are absolutely sure they are the ones with God’s Vision and must obey it, even though, in doing so, they must disobey and reinterpret Orthodox Christian Doctrine? God has given them over to what they are really worshiping and that is self.

Never stop praying for friends and family members who have become trapped in that darkness. Pray for God to draw them out by any means. My brethren, he certainly did it with me and many of you, he can certainly do it with them. Our God is good and Sovereign. His will be done.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Mike you take us on a 12 year journey with this post. It was quite interesting to follow back through your links into the evolution of the visible Church this past dozen years. That goes back before I regularly followed your posts. Words like Transformational, Dominion, Delphi, Dialectic, as well as leaders with familiar popular names are quite enlightening. I would encourage readers to follow the stream of links, and even read the comments on your old posts, there were quite a few. Btw the old link to Vision360 does work anymore, but Bob Roberts has his own site, and is quite active, having even received a special White House award just this September for his work. The list of organizations he is involved with is impressive. I spent about an hour reading through all that.

Also I add these verses to think about…notice the word, “many”.

John 6:64-67 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
