Free Speech Same-Sex Marriage Homosexuality and Chick-Fil-A

by Mike Ratliff

3 Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” 4 And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, 5 and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? 6 “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” (Matthew 19:3-6 NASB)

My wife and I attempted to eat at our local Chick-Fil-A here in Olathe, Kansas this evening in support of Dan Cathy in light of the completely biased or one-sided coverage of his interview statements as a Baptist in a Baptist publication about religious and theological issues. It seems that it is perfectly fine for those with a world-view that is opposed to the traditional Christian world-view to express them, especially when it comes to the Biblical definition of what constitutes marriage, but those who hold to the Christian world-view have no right to state their beliefs, their stances, and what lines they will never cross no matter what. By-the way, this was the day people were to come out in support of Chick-Fil-A and Dan Cathy en masse and we witnessed it big time in Olathe. We couldn’t even get close to the restaurant. The line to get in even beat the line we experienced at Cantler’s Crab House in Annapolis, Maryland last weekend. My wife has been ill and couldn’t stand in the sun so we had to go eat elsewhere. However, from where we sat, we could see that the crowds never diminished the whole time we were there.

The major news media outlets have all blasted Dan Cathy while attempting to propagate outrage that anyone would say what he said, which was basically what our Lord stated in Matthew 19:3-6 about marriage and what the Apostle Paul gave us in his Epistles, which I will exegete for you below. Same-sex unions are not of God. They are unbiblical and condemned in Sacred Scripture, as we shall see. What Dan Cathy stated in the interview was right on Biblically.

Before we get to the text I would like to state a few more things. I for one have a warrior’s mentality when it comes to these sorts of things, but as a Christian, I have learned to be meek and under the control of the Holy Spirit. However, as this same-sex stuff has been thrown up into our faces continually over the last several years to the point that those in the news media and most celebrities simply take on the attitude that everyone must hold to the world-view that affirms homosexuality as being what is normal and right while heterosexuality is not… (trust me, that is their ultimate goal) in any case, I for one have had it and refuse to accept that and will never cross the line to affirm it under any circumstances. Why? My Lord is Jesus Christ and to cross that line is to disobey him, therefore, I cannot do it nor will I as long as I abide in him and am in the control of the Holy Spirit. The point I am attempting to make is that with the Chick-Fil-A “controversy” many of those who are just as frustrated as I am with this whole lie from the enemy, for that is what it is, now see someone they know and trust and love who is being attacked for absolutely no reason and those doing it are obviously doing it with motives that are anything but pure. Political agendas are obvious for all to see. It is almost like a “Remember the Alamo” to some of us.

[26] For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; [27] and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. (Romans 1:26-27 ESV)

My friend Ken Silva told me not long ago that the Postmodern paradigm sees, “… affirming gays as liberating them from their oppressors…” This postmodern mindset is deeply engrained in what is known as Emergence Christianity. This is why its leaders nearly all line up and stand with their “gay friends” in support and do not attempt to get them to repent of their sin because they actually believe that a person can be a practicing homosexual and a good Christian at the same time. Well, actually, I do understand what they are saying and I do understand the underlying compassion that leads them to this, but there comes a point as Christians when we cannot cross certain lines. What God calls sin is sin regardless of how we or anyone else “feels” about it. What does God’s word say about those who will not inherit the kingdom of God?

[9] Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, [10] nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV)

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NA27)

The word translated in v9 as unrighteous, ἄδικοι, refers to those whose behavior is indistinguishable from the unbelieving world and that these people will not be among the saints, those who inherit the kingdom of God, at all. What does it mean to “inherit the Kingdom of God?” This is describing what happens when our Lord’s Kingdom comes into fulfillment and those who are truly His will rule and reign with Him for eternity. Those who do not belong to Him, the ἄδικοι, will only inherit the wrath of God and eternal damnation in Hell. What are the markers of these ἄδικοι ? Paul warns us in v9, “Do not be deceived” or μὴ πλανᾶσθε. When we see this statement or command we must take notice immediately because what we are about to read is a statement that the world and false teachers and preachers have always and will always teach the exact opposite of because to teach the truth here would overload their man-fearing sensibilities. The world hates this message and so when you encounter a preacher who hedges on any part of what I am about to write here then you are dealing with a compromiser and you should run from him or her as fast as you can.

What sort of behavior marks the unrighteous that Paul is referring to here? They are the sexually immoral (πόρνοι), which refers to those who practice any kind of illegitimate sexual intercourse; the idolators (εἰδωλολάτραι), which is describing the placing of anything or anyone before God as the object of allegiance and devotion; the adulterers (μοιχοὶ) , which includes not only the actual act of sexual adultery, but also committing the lust in the heart after one who is not ones spouse; the next one in most modern translations is ‘men who practice homosexuality,’ but in the Greek it is two separate terms, (μαλακοὶ and ἀρσενοκοῖται), which literally translates as “soft ones” and “male bed partners.” In any case, these two Greek terms translated by this phrase refer to the passive and active partners in consensual homosexual acts; the thieves (κλέπται), which is exactly what it says it is. These are people who steal what is not theirs by fraud and in secret; the greedy (πλεονέκται), which refers to those who hold a desire for gain so high that it becomes avarice; the drunkards (μέθυσοι), which is exactly what it says it is; the revilers (λοίδοροι), which describes one who is abusive to others, a blackguard or railer; lastly the swindlers (ἅρπαγες), which describes those who are rapacious or ravening. They raid or plunder others. Think of those who use guile and deceit to swindle and deceive.

What I find interesting is that what I just shared with you is resented by so many, especially that part about homosexuality as if it is a socially protected group with special rights and we cannot call sin what God calls it, which is sin. In any case, those who resent it obviously overlook v11, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” After I was saved I used to read this passage and simply rejoice because I knew that it no longer mattered what sin had enslaved me before God had mercy on me. At my salvation, He washed me, sanctified me and justified me in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Spirit of our God! If you are in Christ then so were you.

However, these so-called Christian leaders trying to justify or affirm people in their sin for whatever motive are going against what God’s Word clearly says and so are proving that they themselves are not of God either.

Soli Deo Gloria!

  1. I agree with what you have presented here. I believe it is the same principle as a Christian who believes in the pro-choice position. The politics of the extreme liberal position has formed an alliance with Satan; the very act of thinking has been twisted to see things so differently that people are being deceived into thinking the wrong actions have become right and right actions have become wrong. This plays out in yet another venue.

August 1 marks the first day of the implementation of one provision in the “Obama care” law that forces the Church and other faith-based organizations to furnish components in healthcare that oppose their faith. The President, and DC Democrats support the legality of abortions throughout the entire nine month gestation. It never ceases to amaze me to consistently see the cohabitation of two completely opposed thoughts, ideas, values and practices surviving in the same mind of any individual. How could one hold the value of Christianity and abortion at the same time? I understand the theory of cognitive dissonance where the individual strives for reduction of any one of the dissonant elements. But how could a Christian even remotely reduce the element of Christian values and relationship in favor of the practice of abortion becoming dominant in value and practice? There must be a bunch of Democrats in DC with a terrific headache! Or perhaps that is the reason they have no compunction in forcing faith-based organizations, including the Church, to finance components in healthcare that oppose their faith and value system.

Someone asks, “How could those thought co-exist in a person’s mind?”

When we have two competing thoughts or values we have to suppress one to implement the other. We live our lives making choices between alternative options. It is just that when one value is so opposite with another one and we struggle to suppress either one, it creates anxiety, remorse, fear and a host of others emotions. I guess I see Christian values, especially when they are associated with eternal consequences, to be a value of faith that should hold a much higher priority in one’s mind than the act of abortion and all accompanying consequences.

  2. Amen, my brother. I also tried to have lunch at a local Chick-fil-A but the press of the crowd was too much for me 🙂

A few years a man at the church I was in posted a blog saying he was a post-modern Christian who would vote for the man known as Obama. Specifically, he was of the opinion that having a pro-abortion President would result in fewer abortions. the mind of a post-modern is incapable of cogent thought.

  3. The day didn’t pass without many of my relatives and friends going to Chick Filet for lunch and dinner. I had received several pictures from the local establishments in each town from them.
The one my parents went to to eat is in the same mall where my wife gets her hair cut. I have witnessed directly in our Lord’s love by the Spirit to a male homosexual in the hair salon in the past. He has listened to the Gospel as I presented it. I know that the only way of salvation for Him is through the working of the Holy Spirit in and through the true Gospel. Protest or showing support for the biblical definition of marriage will not save him. The sad thing is to me so many professing Christians live contrary to the biblical definition of marriage but yet are running to the malls in support of the biblical definition of marriage.
    Mark 10
    King James Version (KJV)
10 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
    7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

So many Christians will not receive this teaching… because of their hardness, the same selfish hardness in the days of Moses Jesus refers to… but yet they will point out the most obvious sexual sins of the homosexual and then go rally.

The Gospel saves sinners through the working of the Spirit from above. All sinners He alone chooses for His grace and He will cause them to repent.
Man continues to have levels of sin and God’s word is clear, we are born into sin and all sinners will take their place in the lake of fire without God’s renewal from His Spirit. Is homosexual sin disgusting? Yes it is. Is heterosexual sexual sins outside marriage as defined by God disgusting? Yes it is.
But… it is more common to our minds than the other, so it seems it is overlooked by most including many many ill taught or hardened ‘Christians’.
I thought about the practicing sinner ( the homosexual one) that I know in that mall. I imagined he watched from a distance the support for marriage and wondered what it all really meant. I sort of doubt anyone presented him the Gospel anew today.
Just my thoughts on the reality of a lost world and the witness of those who claim to know him.
I think sometimes it is misplaced and twisted and falls short of the real call.
I wrote a long email to those friends and relatives who had sent the photos from the protest and decided that i just didn’t think they wouldn’t receive the email well from me anymore than the homosexuals would receive the show of support from the Christians. I just moved the email to draft.
I would think the homosexuals did the same thing. Very sad day for me personally.
I’m sure many could misconstrue this letter from me as some support of some kind for sin, either passively or directly, it is not. I hope that is clear.

  4. Amen. I wonder what these preachers and followers are saying in regards to Chick Fill-A’s supporting Biblical definition of marriage.

It is mindblowing having a professing church defending with all their might an act that is condemned by the Bible and taking sides with the enemy (Satan). A terrifying thing…

  5. Thanks for your teaching and exhortation Mike. Good to see you stand up because the self-declared Reformed/Calvinists have so far been largely silent, and I’ve even heard a couple of high profile Reformed teachers murmur this will create separation with non-believers who disagree with Chick-Fil-A’s stance and creating unnecessary barriers in the preaching of the gospel. The defence so far are from non-Calvinist Christians.

Good to see someone Reformed corner decrying the open hostility from parts of the secular world. Hope it will encourage other Calvinist Christians do likewise.

  6. Joel, Joao, Manfred, and Jim: This morning as I came to the throne of grace, to pray, to seek the will of our Father who is in Heaven, to pour out my own needs, to line up my will with his… I found myself praying for revival, for God’s people to become so convicted of their lack of holiness when compared to his that they would be broken. I prayed for a movement away from the darkness that has become the man-centered church in our time back to a Christ-centered Church that honors God and his Word and obeys the Gospel fully. I found myself praying for those I know who need Christ as Lord and Saviour. Yes, I am still lined up shoulder to shoulder with Dan Cathy and those like him who have done nothing wrong, but have simply expressed what God’s Word says and have called those who need Christ to repentance and faith, which is what we should all be doing.

Brent, as you noticed in my post, I didn’t simply focus on homosexual sin, but showed the context. The reason for this post is that if we do not stand firm and refuse to cross the line of compromise with those who are insisting that we affirm that a person who is an avowed sinner who refused to repent is also a Christian, which is what my post is about, then will we be able to stand before our Lord as he judges our works? This is coming for all who are in Christ brother and I agree with you that what we must do is share Christ with all, but we must also do it in the context of obedience to the Lordship of Christ.

    Soli Deo Gloria!

  7. I agree Mike that you didn’t single out one sin over another.
John the Baptist was imprisoned and eventually lost his head for calling adultery ( taking his brother’s wife ( probably an ex-wife) as his own after ‘repudiating’ his first wife) wrong in Herod’s life.

My point is this, many many Christians who have had double and more ‘marriages’ were at the rally.
Can you imagine if more Christians in the context of obedience to the Lordship of Christ stood against this in our house? The Pharisees walked away in guilt and shame when shown by our Lord the hypocrisy of their sin while ready to stone another for hers. Do we call sin, sin? YES, all of it.
Do we run to each call to rally? That will have to be judged by each in their own heart as the Pharisees eventually had to do also.
Today, most Christians don’t even believe that multiple ‘marriages’ are sin. They are paired together in ‘divorced singles groups’ in the program driven ‘churches’ so as to meet a possible ‘new’ wife or husband so they can move into the ‘blended families’ ‘care groups’….what’s next?
Paul wrote the above passages you posted (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV) to the CHURCH ( Body of professing believers), not to the lost.
This all encompassing message was to US.
Can we start here? in our house? Many live in unrepentant sin of multiple marriages… but hardly a word is said and if anyone does, you will loose you head in our house.

  8. Brent, yesterday at our Chick-Fil-A, which was too busy for us to even get close to, most of the people waiting in line were young, not in my age group. I would say they were high school, college age or young married couples, which really surprised me. The drive-thru was lined up around the block. In any case, my wife agreed as we drove there to include our stop as part of several other things we had to do that we could not be part of any thing approaching obnoxious our whatever. Christlikness has to be what we are all about and that means when those who are offended by the Cross have a problem with that, we do not return back to them evil for evil, but the love of Christ. However, we also do not cross the line and affirm their sin or any sin such as adultery or thievery or immorality of any kind. My conviction this morning in my prayer time was simply that we need to call the Church back to conform to the Holiness of God. Without that, there will never be the move from this darkness to the revival we so desperately need.

  9. Hey Mike! Don’t you know that 2 Ch. 7:14 is all about healing our land, and NOTHING to do with the wickedness of those who call themselves by His Name?!?! Every time I hear it used it is about getting back to the 90’s where credit was easy, our houses were cash cows, our 401 (k) did nothing but go up.
The very concept of revival has to mean sickness unto death…almost, which is EXACTLY what the preachers fill the pews with, a gospel that says we all are sick and need to make adecision for a jesus that will be obligated to accept our decision, come in to our lives and bless our efforts. In fact this gospel has been preached long enough to fill nearly every building with tares who are inoculated to the true gospel, and their sin, and their cross, and their decrease, and His preeminence in everything.
Evil-angelicals elected Obama, a Marxist Socialist Muslim sympathiser, and now they can elect a Dominionist Mormon Fabian Socialist.
The Faith once given hasn’t been in fashion since Finney and Billy Sunday along with Cyrus Scofield,
ad nosium filled the semonaries with liberal socialist gospel purveyers of a love without judgement message.
There will be no revival until they are first made alive by the Holy Spirit and that is a Work He must do, yet scripture shows us the great falling away and true believers being persecuted. Which is what this article started with!

  10. Yes, Mickey, it did start with that and what shall our response be? I say we call the genuine believers out there to repentance, to a life of Holiness and forget trying to make unbelievers act like Christians because that is impossible. Instead, we be the Church and obey the Gospel and, yes, that will lead to persecution. However, I will never stop praying for the lost I know who love their sin more than life itself.

  12. Yes, this is our call. The problem is the beast system with a harlot church system riding it filled with the nominal who can’t stand the biblical. That is why eventually, and soon all biblical will realize they have to, “Come out of her my people for her sins have reached to heaven lest you be caught in her destruction.”
What used to be has been replaced by another’s system. It isn’t the Mohamadist that will persecute as much as the broad road to destruction crowd who will martyr the true witnesses and think they are doing their god a favor…
Been chewed on by any professors lately? The only thing holding them back is…well…you know…

  13. I think Dan Cathy of Chick-Fil-A supports the real biblical definition of marriage (as defined by Jesus in Mark 10) with this quote;
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.” – Dan Cathy
Notice the ‘first wives’ statement. If that issue was pressed many at the rally might and probably would disagree.

  14. “Dominionists and New Age Social Gospel Christians” are going to fix everything, for they must do this for their christ to return, both groups being little gods, and their christ can’t come till they fix what man broke. Those who get in their way are to them a cancer on the life of earth and must be cut out to save her. This is the Dominionist Blue/Grey paradigm, which will go militant once they believe we are the ones holding everything up as narrow (road) minded judgemental mentally sick folks who won’t be re educated to their social agenda.

  16. I went in support of Chick fil A yesterday…not because I am political, or think that my eating at a restaurant was going to change hearts. I went as a Christian in support of fellow Christians who believe the truth about marriage. It is amazing to me that when the ordinary citizens of the US get the chance to “vote” on marriage they overwhelmingly support biblical marriage. Praise God for His mercy and grace upon us, for that is surely what it is. The Lord Himself created men and women and marriage and He sets the parameters for marriage. We Christians are to be salt and light in our society, according to Jesus Christ. Salt and light — we are to speak the truth and also be a purifying influence on our society. Of course this begins with the gospel and we want to make that our first priority. Please do witness and share the gospel whenever you can. But I ask you, when Jesus Christ taught the disciples that they were to be salt and light, were they perfect men? By no means. Did any of them have a divorce in their past? I don’t know, but I do know they were fallen sinners. Fact is that the Lord uses sinners, folks Why? That’s all He has to work with. One has this sin in their past, and that one has another sin. God forgive us we all have sin. By the logic of some, we can’t share the gospel as Christians because we ourselves were once unbelievers! Yet that is not what God says.

True, some so-called Christians still are living lives of unrepentant sin. This was true of the Corinthian church, remember. Yet Paul still addresses them as brothers. Is there a Christian in your life that is living in unrepentant sin? Then be obedient to Matthew 18 with them, don’t try to do a blanket rebuke on a blog. Please don’t say that Christians can’t have a voice in the public square in America regarding marriage because some of them are divorced. Such WERE some of you….

    Like

  17. Julie, you have gotten the message of my writing wrong. It isn’t a ‘blanket rebuke on a blog’ to speak truth and let those who can hear receive. I am a saved sinner calling all of us to preach the Gospel.
That is the priority, preaching the good news, and those who believe teach those the direct teachings of Jesus, all of them.
    Matthew 28:16-20
    King James Version (KJV)
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Teaching who? Those who believe. Teaching them what? “To observe all things whatsoever I have commanded.”

All those hard teaching that the majority of the followers turned away from… the hard teachings on turning the other cheek to our enemies, one marriage, loving neighbors, giving, all of it.

  18. Julie, “Such WERE some of you….” notice the past tense of that statement from Paul (a washed servant) ? It isn’t an authorization for more ‘after’ either. More sin after past sins that were washed is equal to unrepentant sin. That is the warning of the passage, repent and live different and don’t be deceived by any man… not the ‘Senior Pastor’ or the ‘divorce care group leader’ or the divorced gay/homosexual ‘pastor’, or the ‘youth leader’ who says otherwise.

  19. Brent I do believe in those examples you are describing unrepentant sinners who are professing Christians as I described in my post who are not genuine and will not inherit the Kingdom of God. It isn’t their unrepentant sin that keeps them from inheriting the Kingdom of God, but is a evidence that the are unregenerate, not genuine Christians. Sadly, the visible church is replete with these…

  23. Linda, thanks! Yes, as you probably know, Gore Vidol died a few days ago. He was an athiest who was far left in his world-view and was very open about having homosexual affairs that he had, etc, however, he also denied that there was such a thing as sexual orientation that people were homosexula or heterosexul, etc. He stated that people simply made decisions to act a certain way and did what they did were responsible for that. Hence, he was not very popular with the homosexual, gay pride movement. As we know from Scripture, Mr. Vidol now knows that his views about God were very wrong.

I told my wife last night and tried to express in that post that I was hoping Christians would look at this Chick-Fil-A thing as a starting place to move into repentance and holy life before God no matter what the world does with it.

  24. mike, i have yet to read in the gospels where Jesus went out and carried signs or went against the system – HE knew what was wrong but there is a different way – He suggested that Peter pay what was due and provided a way for that to happen – when HE was being cruicified, HE spoke not a word. i know what the scriptures say about same sex marriage and other sins but there is a different way – follow HIM!

  25. Well “stump 10” if you had really read my post then you would know that I never once advocated that either. Going to a restaurant to eat dinner is hardly “carrying signs” or being obnoxious or whatever it is that you are having problem with. Our Lord’s behavior on the Cross was in fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy about him. He laid his life down, they did not take it from him. By the way, if you don’t think our Lord never rebuked anyone go read John 6.

  27. That is all I am saying. That is all this post is about. I and those who agree with me and those like me are saying that no matter what the secular authorities put into place and say and those religious authorities who are apostate say that attempt to make us deny our faith or compromise our faith by crossing the line in affirming things this post is about then we CANNOT do so. That is also Biblical and if you know your Bible then you must know that as well. Right? Also, in John 6 our Lord was not rebuking Pharisees but the very people he fed with the loaves and fishes the day before who were seeking him for food rather than him.

  28. I am encouraged by you dear brother; this is deeper than standing for truth. We compromise, we are apathetic, we are unloving {at times}, we are worldly, and we DO NOT understand the need to desire to be holy. I was tremendously blessed by Jerry Bridges book, ‘the pursuit of holiness’ and am in agreement with you dear brother, we NEED to pursue holiness, we need to stand against ALL sexual sin among our own, we need to tremble and fear the Lord. We need to focus on the eternal and not the temporal. Indeed, may the Lord revive His people.

  29. Rarely have I read as to WHY homosexuality is wrong other than the Bible says so. Ephesians 5 compares marriage on Earth to the greater eternal heavenly relationship of the Bridegroom, Jesus and His church, the bride. Any earthly perversion of the male/female role displayed by marriage is a perversion of Jesus’ role Himself. Even the lost souls who get married (non-homosexuals) are preaching the Gospel by displaying the relationship of Jesus and His church, though they are unaware of it significance. Homosexual marriage perverts the Gospel and that is WHY it is evil. We need to explain why the Bible says what it says.

Along the same line…Why does God hate divorce, besides the Bible stating so? It is because God is always faithful. God hates lying because God is always truthful.

  30. You’re so right Mike that this is a warning for Christians to get right with the Lord NOW and stop straddling fences. It’s going to get very ugly and we need to be praying to the Lord and confessing our sins.. We cannot have Confidence in the Lord if we are not on our knees before HIM. WE need to repent of our pride and be humbled….

If the Lord tarries, I believe we will be jailed, fined, lose jobs, lose our families and everything. If a person is not grounded in the word of God and has not spent time walking and talking growing in Christ, when persecution comes, they will not be able to stand. It just breaks my heart to see many people who are Christians being so complacent… NOW is the time to get our houses in order. Sadly there will be many Christians who will be saved but it will be when they are NOT doing what they should have and they will be standing before Christ shameful…

@ stump 10–Jesus did not speak of bestiality and nor did he speak of child molestation in the New Testament. Are we to believe that if the Government okays these behaviors that we are to obey the Government—or God? Some of these SINS such as homosexuality, bestiality etc were tacit knowledge and understood among the ancients. They didn’t need Jesus telling them that it was SIN. They KNEW from the Old Testament (which might I add Jesus not only followed and upheld as a devout Jew the laws but he also wrote since he is God).

Paul makes it very clear in the New Testament that we are to obey the Government. But he also says in Acts chapter 5 that “We must obey God rather than man”… They were clearly disobeying the leaders at that point because God is final authority and His gospel and our commands are from our HEAD—the Lord Jesus Christ

  31. Dennis, good points. I would add that it is wrong because God created marriage and as Creator He sets the parameters of what constitutes marriage. To go outside the stated parameters of what He has set up for His own design, is rebellion. On the other hand, God is glorified by true marriage, as you point out. Also, the wages of sin is death and satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. All sin is destructive but some sins are so destructive and evil that they literally have the power to destroy those who practice them. Immorality is just such a sin. There are devastating physical, spiritual and emotional consequences for these sins. They can literally destroy the body through disease or by otherwise ruining the body. It is not God’s will that we should destroy our bodies or the bodies of others with these sins. We could also look at history and what has historically happened with cultures which embraced these sins. The Greek and Roman worlds both were destroyed, as were Sodom and Gomorrah. At some point God brings judgment on such cultures (see Romans 1). History confirms what God has said about this sin. God’s judgment is actually a mercy because it stops the sin in its tracks so that it cannot spread to other cultures and destroy the lives of others. There is an old saying: before you tear down a fence, you better ask why it was set up in the first place. Many think that they are more enlightened than our forefathers because historically the Western cultures have resolutely rejected homosexuality. But the fact is that they knew their bibles and they knew history. Our culture has gotten to the point it has forgotten its biblical foundations, or rejected them. We should wake up because God has not changed, nor have His standards.

  32. mike, my thoughts on the “govenmental systems” that are in play – we KNOW that they are wrong – they were wrong when boy babies were killed when Jesus was a baby – but with the election coming up, i was hoping that somehow my message would be that Our Father is still soverign – HE is in control – someone e-mailed me something that the democrats were standing on the platform that gay marriage would be right. we both know that it is all wrong but what i KNOW that God is sovereign and no matter what happens we stand on our Faith that HE has a plan – we cannot change things even as noble as what chick-fil did – it is our Faith that HE counts as righteousness and even when things seem the bleakest, HE is still sovereign. Be still and KNOW that HE is God. judgements may come on our land but HE is still in control. i trust, HIM, mike – our dependency has got to be on HIM. at the moment, i don’t have a plan in play to vote for either of the men for president. maybe that will change but i don’t think so. i am still at peace – that is what HE is asking for – Our faith has got to be in HIM. i bless you and all who may read this. my heart is toward the Father –
