If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Matthew 16:24-25
If God has called you to be truly like Jesus in all your spirit, He will draw you into a life of crucifixion and humility. He will put on you such demands of obedience that you will not be allowed to follow other Christians. In many ways, He seems to let other good people do things which He will not let you do.
Others who seem to be very religious and useful may push themselves, pull wires, and scheme to carry out their plans, but you cannot. If you attempt it, you will meet with such failure and rebuke from the Lord as to make you sorely penitent.
Others can brag about themselves, their work, their successes, their writings, but the Holy Spirit will not allow you to do any such thing. If you begin to do so, He will lead you into some deep mortification that will make you despise yourself and all your good works.
Others will be allowed to succeed in making great sums of money, or having a legacy left to them, or in having luxuries, but God may supply you only on a day-to-day basis, because He wants you to have something far better than gold, a helpless dependence on Him and His unseen treasury.
The Lord may let others be honored and put forward while keeping you hidden in obscurity because He wants to produce some choice, fragrant fruit for His coming glory, which can only be produced in the shade.
God may let others be great, but keep you small. He will let others do a work for Him and get the credit, but He will make you work and toil without knowing how much you are doing. Then, to make your work still more precious, He will let others get the credit for the work which you have done; this to teach you the message of the Cross, humility, and something of the value of being cloaked with His nature.
The Holy Spirit will put a strict watch on you, and with a jealous love rebuke you for careless words and feelings, or for wasting your time, which other Christians never seem distressed over.
So make up your mind that God is an infinite Sovereign and has a right to do as He pleases with His own, and that He may not explain to you a thousand things which may puzzle your reason in His dealings with you.
God will take you at your word. If you absolutely sell yourself to be His slave, He will wrap you up in a jealous love and let other people say and do many things that you cannot. Settle it forever; you are to deal directly with the Holy Spirit, He is to have the privilege of tying your tongue or chaining your hand or closing your eyes in ways which others are not dealt with. However, know this great secret of the Kingdom: When you are so completely possessed with the Living God that you are, in your secret heart, pleased and delighted over this peculiar, personal, private, jealous guardianship and management of the Holy Spirit over your life, you will have found the vestibule of heaven, the high calling of God.
I shall listen in the morrow – but am most confident I will thank the Lord for James White’s perspective. I am in line with you, Mike 🙂

Did you ever in your wildest “late night pizza eating binge” dreams think that exegesis would be needed for this type of abomination to the Holy Word of God?!?!

No Mickey and I believe this sort of idiocy that is, as you said, blatant blasphemy, is part of God’s judgment as Paul described in Romans 1. God’s common grace obviously includes the ability to reason and includes “common sense reasoning,” which people who do things like this have lost. I have long held that those who have fallen into the Post-Modernism have lost the ability to reason and we are seeing more and more of this. This abomination is quite tame when compared to that of what Harry Knox does. He is a defrocked “pastor” who lost his pastorate and was “fired” by his denomination because he preached pro-homosexual sermons twisting the Holiness Code from Leviticus and what Paul taught in his Epistles. He is “married” to his male lover and is and adviser to Barack Obama. Do you get it? These are dark times.
Ken Silva and I were talking last night and we are both in agreement that God has is using these horrible things to raise up some of us to fight the good fight. Therefore, we must do so just as Dr. White said so at the end of the video. As you said, I never thought I would see or hear anything like this, but here we are.
Have you seen the movie “Act of Valor”?
There is a line in it that I really think fits this “struggle” or Truth War. “War is a battle of will. There’s a brotherhood between us. And if you’re not willing to give up everything, you’ve already lost.”
We have to remain faithful and vigilant and that also means totally reliant upon the Lordship of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit as we abide in Jesus. We cannot do this in and of ourselves.
Soli Deo Gloria!

No I havn’t seen the movie. We used to watch TV and movies but we don’t much any more. TV is in the basement in the corner, no cable either. What a relief! When we visit folks we are amazed that they can’t turn the things off, plus the Cialis commercials running during kids shows confirm for us that our lifestyle choice was prudent. Now we actually talk to one another, and have the bible on CD on quite often.
Back when we did do movies the only ones I ever got to see were chick flicks like “Fried Green Tomatoes” or anything Julia Roberts, or for propaganda purposes and retraining, “Father of the Bride.” My wife actually cried during that movie, and when I asked her why, she said because I would be just like Steve Martin character. Personally I see nothing wrong with a barbacue reception!

I hardly ever watch TV Mickey except for the News and even then it mostly just to get the Weather. The commercials drive me nuts, especially during election years. I bought the movie Act of Valor because I am a US Navy Veteran and actually had friends who were Navy SEALS/UDT/Divers. The ones I knew in California taught me how to survive in the water. WHen I think of the adjective “Cool” I think of a Navy SEAL. 🙂

As usual, James does yeoman work in explaining Scripture. Sad part is that those who hold to the false teaching he is refuting will not understand unless the Lord give them ears to hear and a new heart to desire Truth. None the less, we are called to be faithful to the message of our God and trust Him for all outcomes.

Amen Manfred. Those whom he was refuting “walk in the futility of their minds, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their hearts, and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.” (paraphrase of Ephesians 4:17-19) However, we are called to remain faithful and contend for faith to be ready to give an account for the hope that we have in us.
