The Harry Potter book series was marketed through Scholastic Books to their target group of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, through sales at school book fairs as well as use in the classroom. Scholastic gives a place of honor to John Dewey (Oct. 20, 1859 – June 1, 1952) on their website for good reason. John Dewey would have delighted in being able to place a wedge between Muggle parents and their magical children. Mr. Dewey’s intent was always for the educational system to have more sway in children’s minds than their parents. The truthXchange published an article by Steve Baarendse on September 23, 2011 entitled “The Muggles’s Protest”.3 It is a warning and a plea to the Christian community about the inherent dangers of Harry Potter.
Does the average 7-12 year old child possess the wisdom, discernment or maturity to navigate through a minefield of Neopaganism presented charmingly under the guise of “fiction”? The majority of these children do not even come from Christian homes so what is their world view and perception of Harry Potter? Who will guide them?
Should we immerse our children’s minds in a world that essentially inoculates them to the obvious signs and symbols of the occult? Are they not being desensitized to what should be seen and recognized as satanic and demonic? Calling that which is evil good?
Children looking up Harry Potter on the internet can follow the bread crumbs right to the witches shack (website) where they can be instructed on spells that are “real”.
Tabletalk Magazine (Ligonier Ministries) featured an article Nov. 1,2014 by Dr. Peter Jones. The following is Dr. Peter Jones Bio:
Dr. Peter Jones is scholar in residence at Westminster Seminary California and associate pastor at New Life Presbyterian Church in Escondido, Calif. He is director of truthXchange, a communications center aimed at equipping the Christian community to recognize and effectively respond to the rise of paganism.
The book, On Global Wizardry: Techniques of Pagan Spirituality and a Christian Response, compiled and edited by Dr. Peter Jones, again highlights the dangerous aspects of allowing a developing child to become engrossed in Neopaganism through the influence of Harry Potter.
There has been a significant increase in those identifying as Wiccan, Pagan and participating in witchcraft, etc. since the introduction of Harry Potter. That trend has continued every year since, and many in the craft are crediting the interest to the curiosity stirred by the books. I am convinced by Scripture that Harry Potter is at the very least “potentially” spiritually dangerous to our children’s souls and can provide footholds, strongholds and fortresses for the enemy in their impressionable minds.
As Christians, we should have a love for the arts and the beauty that God has extended to His creation. However, we need to be discerning using Scripture as our plumb line.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8 (NASB)
This is a wishful, imaginative poem from my heart for Harry’s transformation.
A Reformed Harry
Dear Lord, I kneel before Your throne,
Your amazing grace has brought me home.Your precious Word has caused me to see,
the wretched sin entangling me.I repent of my wicked and wayward path,
the witchcraft and wizardry that leads to Your wrath.My previous self under Satan’s control,
was used to deceive the unaware soul.I am a new creature now in Christ,
He has removed every sin and given me life.Please allow me to be a beacon in the dark,
leading dear children to follow Your heart.So let me now in Thankfulness bring,

Beloved, if you are still unconvinced by Scripture that Harry Potter is forbidden fruit, may we consider, ponder and meditate on one parting Scripture for the children…

Possessing the Treasure 
So very true, all I can say is I pray that God takes the blinders off people to see this is demonic and yes, it is desensitizing children. As well as a host of other things such as ” mindfulness “, which is another topic altogether. Satan is very clever at introducing books and movies like Harry Potter,, etc…. Also my prayer is that ALL Pastors are warning their congregations to these deceptions,,, hmmmmm

Thank you Mike for sharing Miss Graves article series on Harry Potter. In our Sunday School class we have been discussing 2 John over the past few weeks, and last Sunday we were focusing on 2 John 1:10 which reads, “10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.”
I suspect many people do not realize that opening ones door to a false teacher / deceiver, is not the only way to receive a deceiver into ones home. Every time we turn on our television set we are receiving into our home all manner of false teachings and deceivers (depending upon what we watch); and when we watch something like the Harry Potter series or some other show, movie, etc., we are receiving that deception into our home. It’s one thing if we are a discerning Christian and watching such a thing for research for the purpose of exposing the lies and deceptions and dangers of such a thing, but it is quite another thing if we are watching it for entertainment and personal satisfaction. Especially if we have children or unbelievers or immature Christians in our home while watching such things.
I believe the discernment level in the Church today, both invisible and visible, is fast approaching nil, and this will prove to be disastrous. I am horrified when I hear a brother or sister talk about enjoying the latest anti-biblical show or film, or walk into church carrying their favorite false teacher study bible.
