1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. 5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. 2 Peter 1:1-11 (NASB)
Two very interesting things were brought to light today in the discussion groups I am part of on Facebook. As this happened I wondered if God waited until I got back from vacation to bring this about, but then it occurred to me that I am just little cog in the wheel and He most certainly doesn’t need me. The first thing that slammed into me this morning came from Pulpit and Pen. Yes, I know that a lot of people view them as divisive and many other things, but I have been friends with some of those guys for more than a decade so I do listen to them when they break things. The second came from PJ Media and it dealt with the apostasy of Josh Harris, the author of the Christian book I Kissed Dating Goodbye.
Let’s examine the first one. The article is titled “BOMBSHELL: “Justice Democrats” Founder is THE Organizer of Evangelical Social Justice Movement.” Please click on the link and read the entire article. For many of us in the discernment ministries this is nothing new and we have been waiting “for the other shoe to drop” for some time. Several weeks ago during John MacArthur’s Bible Conference there was a session where much of this came up and when I posted a Pulpit and Pen video about it I was lambasted by many readers on my Facebook page because they just could not believe that their favorite Christian leaders were actually doing what they really are doing to replace the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with something else. That something else is the Social Justice Gospel, which, of course, is NOT the Gospel. It is a form of Cultural Marxism. The gist of this article is that the thrust of the movement is to move evangelical Christians away from conservative voters to liberal voters.
My stance on that was that their thrust may work on “marginal” Christians, but not those who are genuine. What I mean by “marginal” are those who are either cultural Christians or who are very immature. Genuine Christians are those who are truly in Christ and are maturing and growing in grace. They have discernment and wisdom from our Lord because they spend time in the Word and prayer and being transformed through the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:1-2). Only genuine Christians can do this and are doing this. These will know God’s truth and His doctrines and will live by them. They will be grounded in the Word of God. Those who are not, but profess to be Christians are centered on self-righteousness, works-righteousness and feelings. None of that can stand up to the pressures and stress of this world and these are the ones who apostasize.
The second thing was Josh Harris’ apostasy. The name of the article at PJ Media is I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ Author Says He’s No Longer a Christian: Get Ready for a Flood of Christian Defections. I must confess that I have never read any of Josh Harris’ books or any of his articles in depth. I avoid those in the “New Evangelism” as much as possible. My editor Marsha West made a very interesting comment about this today and it had to do with how we started our discernment ministries and how they have evolved. I started mine as a response to the Seeker Movement, specifically in response to the Purpose Driven takeover of scores of good churches, mine included. I and many of my friends worked tirelessly during those early years attempting to find the key to stopping Rick Warrenism from spreading, but as we did this a new enemy starting attacking us calling us “Fundamentalists.” These were the “Emergents.” It was far worse than anything that the seeker folks ever put up against us because they fought dirty. They used profanity. They tried to blackmail our internet providers into taking our sites down. It was a war. They changed their name to “emergence christianity.” After a while it seemed that they just faded away. The New Evangelists came in. You know, guys like Stephen Furtick. In any case the next thing sprung up. Marsha told me in her comment that it was obvious that it started with the Seeker movement and from it came the Emergents then from it came the Social Justice Warrior movement.
What has that to do with us having to get ready for a flood of Christian defections. The form of “Christianity” that people like Josh Harris have been peddling for over 10 years is anti-doctrine and more about feelings. They actually taught their people that doctrine divides and it is more important to be inclusive than it is to preach the truth from God’s Word. The next step is to cave to the SJW pressure and now they are in bed with the LGBTQ+ people.
There can be no compromise with God and His truth. Either you stand for what His Word says as The Truth and it is complete and authoritative or you are a liberal and are on the way to being an apostate. From what I read in the article Josh Harris is already there.
I am primarily a Bible Teacher not a prophet. I have no inside information about the end times. However, I do know that Jesus did say that He will continue to build His Church and there is no power that can stop that. I believe that. Yes, there may be a lot of defections, but those falling away are not real believers. What it does mean for us who will NOT fall away is that the pressure to compromise will be become more and more severe. We may indeed go through some persecution. If so, then we had better get on our knees and start praying for the strength and wisdom and discernment to obey our Lord as He commands.
Come soon Lord Jesus!
Soli Deo Gloria!
