What Now?

by Mike Ratliff

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,(Ephesians 6:10-18 ESV)

I have been in a state of mourning since the Democratic Primaries came down to only two candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama. I had little confidence in any of the Republican contenders after Ron Paul dropped out. I was not sure for a while what really triggered this mourning. It was as I realized that this coincided very dramatically with the drastic decline in the Christian worldview in our time that God has taken His hand of protection away from this country. Judgment is coming.

A careful reading of the book of Judges in the Old Testament makes it clear that it is God who raises up and takes down leaders. God uses evil or unrighteous judges and leaders to bring His righteous judgment to bear on a people. With the victory of Barak Obama yesterday all of the dread about what would happen to this country if an ultra-liberal came to power seems about to become reality. Count on it that this man will appoint unrighteous Supreme Court justices. He will lubricate things so that liberal legislation will become law like the Freedom of Choice Act. Preaching or teaching God’s moral truth will be considered a hate crime.

What now? What are we to do who belong to the Lamb of God? We must remain in a state of mourning for this country. We must never stop praying for the repentance of those who are in darkness. We must pray for the salvation of Barak Obama. We must pray that God will curb the evil that is planned by him and his supporters. We must also pray for each other that we will be strong in the Lord, bold in Him, as we stand firm and trust that we are in God’s hands.

I am convinced that what is coming will cleanse the Church. What should our role be in a time like this?

These things I command you, so that you will love one another. “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. (John 15:17-21 ESV)

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:10-16 ESV)

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. (1 Peter 4:12-19 ESV)

What I read here tells me that we are to continue to do good. We are to stand firm against evil, preach the truth, and look at the resulting persecution as part of our partaking of Christ’s suffering. If we will do this then we will be persecuted. The Bible promises this. Back in the late 1980’s I was in a Bible study with some fellow Deacons. We were studying 1 Peter. When we came to 4:12-19 there was not one of us who could testify of ever being persecuted for our faith. The little bit of suffering for my faith that I have experienced has been exclusively verbal or written abuse. That is about to change my brethren.

“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (Luke 12:8-12 ESV)

We are in God’s hands my brethren.  It is vital that we remember this because we live in an anti-Christian culture. When I was a young man, there was a huge push to do away with all forms of religion as having any say in anything. However, what we have now is secular humanism blended with a counterfeit form of Christianity called the ‘emergent’ church. This pseudo-religion sees all other religions as equal except Biblical Christianity. Have you seen how the Islamic clerics are pushing the Roman Catholic Church to seek areas where both religions have common ground? This can only be for blending them into one.

If we obey our Lord and stand firm in the armor He provides then we will find ourselves in a very hot battle in this culture. It has been verbal and written so far, however, now things are going to get serious. Those who will look the other way as our rights are taken away and persecution comes will only be concerned about maintaining their financial stability and way of life. After all, wasn’t it the economy that was the tipping point that laid it all out there for Barak Obama?

Sources such as this blog and Christian Radio and the pulpits in our churches will come under the scrutiny of those in control who hate the light. I do not know how all of this is going to pan out. All I know is that we have clear instructions from God. We must immerse ourselves in the Word of God. We must apply Romans 12:1-2 to our lives daily. We must be ready to give an account. We must never stop mourning for the lost as we pray for our President and his people that God will break through and bring them to repentance and salvation. We must never stop praying to God that He will curb the evil that is going to come.

We cannot stand by and do nothing as the unborn are killed by the millions. I cannot think of these things without weeping my brethren. Do not be surprised when our numbers seem to shrink as those who love their lives here refuse to take a stand. God is cleansing and purifying the Church.

Oh, my Lord! We have sinned! We have taken You for granted. We have seen our easy life here in America as our due. We have not stood in the gap in mourning for the moral bankruptcy of our country and our fellow professing Christians. We have shrunk from offending others and so neglected Church discipline. Oh please forgive us Lord. I pray for Barak Obama that you will bring him to repentance and salvation. I pray that the evil that is planned for this country will be curbed by your grace by your great power. Fill us with your Spirit and give us the resolve and courage to stand firm and do good even to those who hate us. Thy will be done!

Soli Deo Gloria!

  1. I was sad when Fox News refused to show his name in the polls………..even when he beat McCain and the rest of them. You can tell the media is in the pocket of the international bankers. Obama and his administration are going to redo the banking structure. Probably a new currency after they devalue the dollar, in order to usher in the new structure in along with the new currency. His new chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel was a managing director of a global investment firm. All of these men that you see in control of finances are Goldman Sachs VPs. Paulson and Kashkari are Goldman Sachs. I don’t know if you remember, but the chairperson for the Transatlantic Partnership agreement is also a Goldman Sachs chairperson. They are going to make a move at a major change that many will not like. A total of 3 army brigades are assigned to martial law now. That violates Posse Comitatus. Something big and not so great is on the horizon. Bigger govt. is on the horizon. The formation of civilian youth brigades is an excuse to disarm Americans while claiming that if you are part of the state sponsored civilian corps, then you can be armed. These folks are lawyers, and they know how to maneuver around the constitution for the sake of their agenda. The international bankers are not stupid. They are willing to divide and conquer just like they are doing in Iraq. Saddam told Rockefeller to take a hike, and now you see what happened. America is an instrument of judgment until we have finished his purpose. When God is done with this nation, he will roll it off of the cliff and into the sea, just like he says in Jeremiah 51:25.

Whenever leaders like Joe Biden, Colin Powell, and SEC.
Albright say that there will be a “generated crisis” then that would mean it is something they can control. Crash the dollar and offer the solution….. a new financial system, a Nanny state, and a new colorful currency.

  2. What people don’t understand, is that people who have power to create money also have power to devalue it. Rockefeller said, “Give me control of a nations money and I care not who makes its laws.”

The international bankers and some greedy charismatics believe in one world govt.. and they are willing to lie to your face to say that America will not lose her sovereignty. They know that they have to crash her first, make her weak, and then offer their solution.. at a point when her citizens are desperate and needy.
A regional govt. will take away your guns. They don’t want resistance. This will be a large controlling Nanny state where Christianity will be hated.

  3. Yea Mike. Ron Paul would have been an excellent president. I had his bumper sticker on my back windshield until Fox News and the main stream media ruined his chances. You can tell that a man who speaks out against the international bankers and global govt. will not be given the time of day. The same goes for those who are in office.

JFK wanted to abolish the federal reserve with executive order 11110 and they killed him for it.

The whole world is celebrating Obama being elected as President…I would like to say one thing…If he rejected his Muslim faith and was converted to Christianity, The world would not like him. It would be like the other Muslims that I have met in my life time that have had their eyes opened by our Lord and followed Christ, their whole families hated them and cut them off of everything and if possible, have tried to kill them.

  6. The skids have already been greased for whatever Obama does. GWBush ran as an evangelical Christian, yet the eight years of his presidency shows no fruit of that claim. In fact, our nation is more immoral now than it was eight years ago, in spite of having a so-called Christian president.

Persecution has already begun, but because it always happens somewhere else (Canada, Europe, etc.) we feel safe. And when it happens in the US, we blame it on liberal judges or some other anomaly, not realizing it is just the beginning of a time of testing our faith.

Our Lord is sovereign and in control of all things, from each breath we take to the balance of the universe.

    Ps 37:1-6
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

By the reassurance given in His Word, we have nothing to fear. Thank the Lord that He is in control.

I prayed, I voted and I felt assured it would be His will done. I truly believe Obama was Father’s choice to bring about the judgement, and the countdown to His return has started. For believer’s who are steeped in His word and walking that narrow path this can be a joyful time. Even though some tough times, even some really bad times, are ahead, we know from His word that this is what He has been preparing us for.

  9. Josh, Linda, Paul (TOG) and all,

I am not advocating hand wringing about the election. I am simply saying that things have changed and we had better be ready to stand firm. The world has lost the Christian worldview. Therefore, we must stop acting like that hasn’t changed anything. We live in an anti-Christian culture. I actually believe that we have a greater opportunity to live for God’s glory than ever before. Therefore, let us not fear men. As Paul (TOG) said, God is sovereign and what have we to fear?

The presidency of George Bush was a clear indication that things started going downhill. The wealthy international bankers have a lot power when it comes to running politics. I think the hardest part for me is watching how careless people live. Jesus said that people will say peace and safety and then suddenly destruction would come upon them.

If you look at who Bush and Obama’s advisors are, you will see they are all connected and put their to accomplish a common agenda. Z. Brezenski is now Obama’s policy advisor, the man who provoked the Russians to move into Afghanistan. The same thing happened with S. Ossetia, when Georgia joined NATO. Now we have another cold war with Russia, seeing that Ukraine, Poland, and Georgia are being used like chess pieces to test Putin. You can see that Russia (Gog) is on the hit list since they supply arms to Iran, Syria, China, Venezuela, and Hezbollah. Z. Brezenski is the CIA advisor who helped put together the Mujihadeen in Afghanistan to defeat the Soviets back in the early 80’s. Just recently, Frank Carlucci (advisor for Rand Corporation) lobbied the Pentagon war a war with a major foreign power such as Russia.

Putin is very uneasy about the US repositioning with forces around his border. Obama has the Brezinski crew in place. A crew who is focused on the Russian military.

The strong delusion is on, the superficial Christians will very soon fall silent. The true followers of the Lamb will be strengthened by Him to persevere and endure, all of which will bring glory to our Father! Let us pray fervently for one another, and for His glorious return! I praise God for you Mike, and Josh, David, Linda, Paul, and all who truly belong to Jesus Christ by the grace of God.

  14. Is this the beginning of the end? I don’t know. I do know I heard this same stuff with Clinton’s election – exactly – so I’m skeptical. We don’t know the hour of His coming, but we are to be prepared. Maybe the election will awaken us, but I’m not hopeful. 9/11 didn’t do it, and I’m not sure what will.

What I know for sure is that I’ve lived through 6 Republican and 4 Democratic presidents and I can’t tell much difference – spiritually, morally, or economically. I’ve lived through runaway inflation with Carter and a near recession with Bush. I’ve lived through no-fault divorce with Reagan (while he was CA gov) and abortion with Nixon. It just doesn’t seem to matter.

I guess what I’m saying is that we’re silly if we think God must use the Prez of the US to get His will done. He’ll do it however He wants, and all the “chicken little” talk seems overcooked. Mike is right – we ought to be mourning, but we should have been for decades now, not since Tuesday. And we ought to be trusting – God will take care of His followers, both in life and in death. In the meantime, we need to pray and look for chances to bear witness to Jesus.

Yeah, I’ve lived through all of that as well and I agree with you except that what has changed is our culture. That combined with a Obama and a congress that will give him everything he wants with a culture that is all for it is quite a change wouldn’t you think? You are right about what we are to do. That has never changed, however, we must be ready for the evil that is coming.

  18. Mike, I have to ask about this statement: “It was as I realized that this coincided very dramatically with the drastic decline in the Christian worldview in our time that God has taken His hand of protection away from this country.”

Since when has God identified the U.S. as being under His special protection? I don’t deny that I think the U.S. has had a special place in history and that God has had special purposes for various leaders in our history and has had special purposes for our country throughout history; but He has done the same in numerous countries and in the lives of numerous leaders throughout the centuries.

How do you justify a statement that implies that the U.S. has had a special/ordained/protected place in God’s eye that has now been forfeit as the country declines morally and spiritually?

Wanna try reading it again. I never said that the US has any special anything under God. I am saying that whatever blessings He has rendered to us is being taking away. That’s all.

My statement about the Christian worldview has absolutely nothing to do with the US. It has to do with the fact that our culture is no longer Biblically oriented. This is reflected all over the world. You do know that don’t you?

You aren’t alone in this mourning.

And it was maybe nine years ago when I asked the Lord to provide a home for my wife and I that we could have home church in. I asked for this because I was working at a large university then and could see what they were teaching the kids. And of course, kids grow up and take over.

God answered that prayer rather miraculously. And my wife and I have been meeting in our home for a while now due to a lack of any good churches in the area.

Somehow, I have a feeling that we may not be alone for long. The real believers will be driven underground.

Being a normal person, I obviously prefer to have things nice and easy. But if this is what the Lord has for us, He knows what is best.

May we all pray for one another that we will have endurance. But let us all remember to take each day, each moment as it comes. Our Lord, after all, did say not to be anxious about tomorrow. Each day will bring its own evil.

Perhaps this would be a good time to read up on the lives of the Biblical men of God and how they suffered?

You are precisely correct. We’re going to have to adjust our perspective and begin to see it as a spiritual battle and not one of flesh and bone.

The remedy we have now is the only remedy that we ever really had — the Gospel. And by “Gospel”, I mean the message of sin, judgment, repentance and faith. We will, no doubt, be preaching it more to ourselves as the days get dark as well as to those around us.

Paul Washer had a video out a while back. In it, he talked about how the contemporary church teaches that the Gospel is just the starting point. You “get saved” then move on to “bigger and better things”.

As our luxury for worldly distraction disappears, we will find that there is no bigger and better thing than the Gospel.

    Period.

  23. You know, Mike? I’ve often wondered if the Lord hasn’t been preparing me for times such as this. The way I was converted and had to pursue God *in spite of pastors and sincere “Christians”* who told me I was “Ok” because I had “accepted Christ” (read: Easy Belief). I knew “something was wrong with me” but they didn’t understand the real gospel.

How I had to continue through my struggle with doubt even as I was chided for “doubting God”. I had to learn what faith really is. The hard way. And I had to learn how to personally trust God and find my comfort there, not in someone else’s counsel. That has been a really hard lesson.

How I have had little or no worldly security *in spite of* the fact that I have a college degree after graduating at the top of my class (out of pride). For years (prior to my conversion) I was so bitter because I *thought* I had earned all the toys while the Lord is saying “the toys don’t matter”. I’ve learned a degree of contentment, although it isn’t a perfected contentment by any means.

I’m sure my former classmates are driving new cars, watching giant screen TV sets and all that. Some of them, I know, are making hundreds of thousands per year. Me? I have a rusty ’93 Civic hatchback with 160k+ miles and a 19″ TV (hooked up to a dvd player and VCR with no antenna or cable or Dish, or…). I’ve been off work for 6 weeks because the elderly lady I help in her home has been in the hospital.

And you know what? I *don’t* care. Because all that will pass away. And the *stuff* that many count as the banner of earthly or spiritual “success” will one day fail those who own it.

There are so many things that I could mention that I can’t even remember right now. Little subtle ways that I think the Lord has been telling me “it’s not going to last and it isn’t what you want to chase after. Only concern yourself with what is eternal”. As I look back over my life, I see God preparing me for this. I pray I’m right. I believe I am.

What I have historically viewed as earthly “bad luck” I now see as possibly the mercy of God keeping me from becoming satisfied with what the world offers and a fatal hardening of my heart to the gospel.

And what a comfort to know that the faith I have is one grounded in hard experience.

I’m certainly not mature by any means. However, I am thankful that I can look back over the past ten years and see these things. It gives me hope for the future because I know that the work He has started, He *will* finish, no matter how crazy the world around me gets.

All that matters is being where God wills doing what He wills all for His glory. You are being prepared brother and I pray that God will complete that work in you.

In reply to your question to Mike, may I put my small cents worth?

No I do not believe it would. We need it done His way. Our way is so self-centred and indulgent and self-protecting. We would learn nothing about nothing.

His way is in the Refiner’s fire, the Potters wheel, changing hearts of stone into hearts of flesh, teaching us how to die to self, picking up our cross. Trusting when we cannot see a possible outcome or stepping out of the boat when we cannot see a platform of any kind to step on to. Nothing self-centred or self indulgent or self-protecting here. It’s giving your all to the ALL IN ALL and trusting in the full character of God, not some creed you have been taught verbatim by a church somewhere. It is only when you get into tough ‘situations’ that you find out if your faith and belief is in God Himself or in a creed. If it’s in a creed, then it’s wake-up time, big time. Our faith has to be tested for it to grow.

His way produces wonderful, glorious fruit and we run a race with Christ as the Prize. Our way produces dead, empty lives, with no reward at the end except maybe some nicely worded epitaph.

God is glorious and all knowing, and knows exactly what He is doing with us.

  30. All of this uncertainty about our country is a wake up call. Those who are not sober will either sober up and come out of the delusion, or they will continue on loving the things of this world. As the previous bloggers have said before, we are not to look for worldly leaders to be our rock. Nor should we think that America is an eternal beacon. Her light can be extinguished in one day. If we believe that she will last forever, we as Christians would be mere fools.

I am thankful that God has given us some time without intense persecution similiar to places like China, India, Pakistan, or Afghanistan. But I do believe that time is coming to a close. I like our constitution but the statement about us having rights endowed to us by our creator should have been followed with, “and he has the right to take away our rights whenever he sees fit.” All powerful empires come to an end. Who knows which empire will rise next?…….Maybe some kind of global order, precipitated by the U.S.? Perhaps when the global order is finished, the men who have used America like a prostitute for their agenda, will discard her and leave her desolate and naked. She has had great wealth and she has been the biggest financier of global govt. But once that wealth is gone, who will want to have anything to do with her? Those who have used her will wander back to their own quarters. That is what the Bible says.
